Congratulations, your holiday to KL has finally made it out of the group chat. As you fill your KL itinerary with the usual shopping and dining options, there’s one more thing to sort – somewhere to crash that’s decent but also affordable.
For all the Squid Game fans out there, you’re in luck. There’s a Squid Game-themed Airbnb in KL, with a dorm-like setting and spot-on props, that make it the perfect hangout spot for a group of unserious besties looking for a good time. Plus, a night’s stay is priced at an affordable S$77*.
*May vary depending on the dates you choose.
The Airbnb is nestled in the heart of Bukit Bintang, a shopping district in the city centre with a bustling nightlife. It is a prime location that is within walking distance of popular malls like Fahrenheit88 and Pavilion KL, as well as close to the iconic Twin Towers.
The exact location will only be provided upon booking, but you can look forward to exploring the area, including Jalan Alor Food Street and Berjaya Times Square.
You’ll be staying in a room which fits up to 4 people, so it’s perfect for besties or siblings who won’t fight too much over who gets the top bunk.
Upon entering, you will be greeted by the Red Light Green Light doll herself, who will monitor your every move as you check in at the front desk. Once inside, various decals plastered across the walls bring memories of those harrowing Squid Game challenges to life.
Then, the props start to steal the show: 2 bunk beds sit flush against the wall, and a money bank taunts you from high up on the ceiling. It is an uncanny recreation of the show’s most coveted prop. While there’s no actual prize money at stake here, the bragging rights for best photo or most dramatic reenactment are very much up for grabs.
Green player jackets and pink guard uniforms are also ready and waiting to help you get into character.
You’ll also find a stash of mini game props around the room. These items are free for you to play with and enjoy throughout the time you’re there.
So, try your hands at ddakji or gonggi – which is basically Korea’s version of our 5 stones – and see which one of you would survive the deadly games. Don’t forget to document the moments of triumph and loss in between. But remember – no one’s actually getting eliminated here, hopefully.
Before you start plotting your own Squid Game arc, note that the host has made it very clear – no dangerous activity or funny business allowed. You’re meant to treat it like an exhibition.
That said, it’s still a fully-functioning Airbnb, with a kitchenette, bathroom, and air-conditioning – not bad at all considering the price. So, feel free to hunker down and enjoy some rounds of games. If you survive the night, you’ll even walk away with an exclusive Squid Game souvenir.
It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create some thrilling memories with your friends, especially if they’re fans of the show. And when you split the S$77 price tag between 4 people, it works out to be a pretty affordable stay.
But I wouldn’t recommend staying for more than 1 night – the metal, dorm-style bunk beds might seem fine at first, but your back might just start playing its own survival games after a few days.
