What Would You Do With Spider-Man’s Powers In SG? We Asked Local Youths To Share

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Summer is underway, and with it comes the season’s biggest blockbusters. Hitting screens on 30th July 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), AKA well on its way into Phase 6 of The Multiverse Saga.

ICYMI, this latest movie is the 4th in the MCU Spider-Man series, following Spider-Man: No Way Home back in 2021. With everyone’s friendly neighbourhood superhero swinging back into our lives, we couldn’t help but wonder: what would you do if you suddenly woke up with Peter Parker’s iconic Spidey powers in Singapore?

We took that question to local youths, and here’s a spoiler: there was very little crime-fighting, and a lot of life-hacking involved.

1. Swing my way to work or school – surge pricing & crowded MRTs can’t hurt me

If you’ve seen the trailers for Brand New Day, you’ll know that Peter Parker can now spin webs from his forearms – major score! This game changer means I’ll never be late for school or work again. I won’t have to wake up extra early to beat traffic jams, or cry in broke from Grab surge pricing.

I won’t have to deal with peak hour commuter crowds on the MRT too. Missing my ride because I can’t squeeze into the carriage? Whiffs of body odour courtesy of other passengers from the “I don’t shower in the mornings” club? They’ll all be problems of the past ‘cause I’ll be slinging my webs across town.

2. Rescue people or pets that are stuck

Do you remember the cat that was stuck in a tree for 50 hours? If I had Spider-Man’s ability to stick to walls and surfaces, I’d be able to rescue the kitty in a flash. It’s not just pets that I would be able to save – there are also the times where people are trapped in their flats, or kids that are stranded in high places after a case of misadventure. I could easily get all of them to safety in case the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) can’t reach them.

With my web-slinging power, they’re in extra good hands since I can lower them gently without the risk of falling.

– Rina (17)

3. Ace my IPPT every year

Who needs to train for IPPT (Individual Physical Proficiency Test) when you’ve got Spider-Man agility and super speed? 2.4km in 11.5 minutes will be a walk in the park. 60 sit-ups and push-ups? Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Maybe I’ll even set some records while I’m at it.

The $500 incentive will be mine every year, no sweat.

– Noah (22)

4. Will never kena scammed again

Purists will say that Spider-Man’s instincts only alert him to physical threats, but I would like to think my Spidey gut will start sounding the alarm at the first hint of a scam. The next time an unknown number calls me, you can be sure I’m not picking up the phone if my Spidey sense tingles. I won’t have to second guess text messages from the bank or traffic police warning me of my overdue fines too!

Phishing call centres, give it your best shot – I won’t fall for your tricks again.

– Sophia (27)

5. Play football so Singapore can win World Cup

If I had Spider-Man powers, Singapore would for sure be one of the underdogs making it big on the global arena at the World Cup. I’ll be the next Erling Haaland, except I’ll lead the Singapore Lions to victory! With my super speed, super healing, and super agility, I’ll even win the Golden Boot for us.

– Elvin (23)

6. Chope table from across the kopitiam

Kiasu OLs ain’t got nothin’ on me at lunchtime when I’ve got spiderwebs that shoot out of my arm. The moment I spot an empty table, I’ll sling my packet of tissue paper there faster than you can say “Jiminy Cricket!”, even if it is across a bustling kopitiam.

With this brilliant power, I don’t have to rush for lunch early just to chope my seat. Now to figure out how to jump the line at my favourite cai png stall too…

– Pru (25)

7. Go JB no need jam

The possibilities are exciting and endless if I had my own Spider-Man powers. Top of my list of priorities would be all the JB jams that I can get past in a flash. Everyone else can queue for the RTS Link when it’s ready – I’ll be zipping over the Causeway my way, any time of the day.

– Mike (30)

8. Get the best view of every concert in town

It doesn’t matter which concert venue it is, I’ll confirm, chop, stamp, guarantee that my seat will be the best one in town – and I won’t even need to chiong with the rest of the world for tickets. Goodbye virtual waiting rooms and scalpers, because I’ll be climbing up the walls and sneaking into the concerts for the most VVVVVIP of seats.

In case you didn’t catch my meaning, I’ll be right above you, watching the show with my super Spidey senses, minus the sticky, sweaty crowd.

– Gail (32)

Spider-Man takes over *SCAPE with local artists

Unfortunately for all of us, all these Spidey fancies are just that – dreams. But you can channel your inner Spider-Man at *SCAPE this weekend, where local street artists like ZERO, GORIS, Wing, and Nusha are transforming the graffiti wall at the main plaza into a massive Spider-Man-themed mural.

The best part is this: you were a part of the mural-painting too, if you made it down today. For those who missed today’s session, come down over the next few days to see the rest of the mural as it’s being completed. While you’re here, check out the youth festival that’s also happening, and watch as the mural makes its way to completion.

Stick around, because the mural will be completed by 22nd July, and the full time-lapse video will be posted on Sony Pictures Singapore’s Instagram and TikTok pages by the 30th July. Make sure to spot yourself when that’s released!

Besides the mural, there’s a second graffiti installation at the *SCAPE Skate Park, so don’t miss that while you’re at the event.

Catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinemas 30th July

We’re coming in hot to the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in cinemas, and if this weekend was any proof, we know you’re just as pumped up as we are. Until someone figures out how to bottle up Peter Parker’s powers, painting your way into a Spider-Man-inspired mural is about just as close as you’ll get to being the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man. And remember, with great power comes great responsibility, so make your contribution count!
