Sourdough painting workshop in Singapore
Baking classes and artsy workshops are cute, but if you enjoy both equally, your wallet probably cries a little every time you book one of these workshops. Well, good news for crafty carb lovers: there’s now a sourdough painting workshop by North Yeast Line, a home-based bakery in Singapore that merges the best of both worlds.
Instead of choosing between kneading dough or painting on canvas, you’ll get to decorate your own sourdough – minus the time-consuming prep – and leave with a beautifully painted loaf that’s edible.
What is North Yeast Line?

First of all, 10/10 for the pun. North Yeast Line is a home-based bakery located at Block 363 Hougang Avenue 5, and since Hougang MRT sits on the North East Line (NEL), that’s where the clever wordplay comes in.
They specialise in sourdough, with regular loaves starting from $11. Flavours include savoury ones like garlic & herb and unique options like hojicha dark chocolate. Or top up $5 for decorated sourdough, where they’ll zhng up your loaf with pretty flowers or abstract fruit designs.
Sourdough aside, one of the best parts about the bakery is that they offer free self-collection at their block, or opt for pick-up at your nearest NEL station at no extra charge. Yup, that means MRT stations all the way from HarbourFront to Punggol Coast. If you live anywhere along the purple line, your next bread haul is literally calling out to you.
And if buying bread isn’t enough, North Yeast Line recently launched their sourdough painting workshop in August 2025.
What to expect at the sourdough painting workshop
Paint your own loaf & bring it home to enjoy

The concept is pretty similar to art jamming, but instead of painting on canvas, you’re painting on bread. If you ask us, we think this $30/pax workshop is pretty worth it – you can’t exactly toast and eat your acrylic masterpiece, but you can devour a sourdough.
Before you start, the owners will give a quick briefing on how to use the food-grade colouring, so even if your last art class was in secondary school, you won’t feel totally lost. Each person gets 1 freshly prepared sourdough loaf that’s already been shaped and proofed. You’ll then paint your design directly onto the surface – florals, swirls, or cute little characters – whatever your inner artist desires.

Then comes the fun part: once your loaf is baked, you’ll get to see how your design has transformed in the oven. The colours usually deepen, and the patterns expand slightly, creating a one-of-a-kind artwork.
Add on a 4-course meal to round up the experience

For an additional $70/pax, you’ll be treated to a 4-course meal whipped up by the owners themselves, turning your workshop into a cosy lunch or dinner affair.
Expect a hearty spread that could include a sourdough platter, pasta, Caesar salad, and tiramisu. The menu rotates, which means you might get slightly different dishes depending on when you book, but you can always reach out beforehand to discuss dietary requirements or substitutes.

While the owners aren’t professionally trained chefs, they’ve hosted multi-course meals before, so the vibe is more homely than fine-dining stiff.
The workshop and 4-course meal typically takes around 3 hours, but factor in an extra 20 minutes just in case, as each course is timed based on how quickly you finish eating.
All in, it works out to $100/pax for the sourdough painting workshop and home dining experience, perfect for treating bae during date night, or for birthday and bachelorette parties.
What else do you need to know?
It’s recommended to add at least 1 course from the optional 4-course meal even if you’re not planning on having a full feast. That’s because baking takes about 45 minutes, plus an extra 30 minutes to cool the loaves before packing. Having something to nibble on helps pass the time while your loaves bake, and with board games on hand, you can play and chat your way through the wait.
