The recently-opened SAFRA Choa Chu Kang has got heads turning, revoking the previous ulu reputation of the neighbourhood. Among its list of new things to do, such as an infinity pool and Bouncetopia by Kidztopia, bowling fans may be able to spot a familiar name.
That’s right, Sonic Bowl SAFRA Choa Chu Kang has just opened, and it comes with some cool upgrades that you can’t get elsewhere.
Back in the day, I remember sitting on plastic chairs waiting for my turn during after-school bowling sessions, but those days are gone. Sonic Bowl has upgraded to full-on sofas – the fancy kinds too, like the ones you see at clubs.
But that’s not even the best part – the 16 lanes are interactive, with special light effects projected on them. Essentially, the movement of the ball is tracked as it travels towards the pins, and the elements projected on the lane will react accordingly.
Sonic Bowl members can enjoy this interactive bowling experience for only $3.50/game but for the rest of us, it’ll be $5/game. Those keen on coming down often can sign up for a Sonic Bowlers membership for $100/year with $50 renewal.
Switch up from your typical party venue and try the VIP room that’s large enough to fit 40 people (from $700/2 hours). This private area has 2 full-sized bowling lanes, tables, and a karaoke corner – so go right ahead and bowl and sing to your heart’s content without having to worry about being judged.
Imagine getting all this just to get gutter balls.
Sonic Bowl really went all out on this one. It may be hard to believe that you’re at a SAFRA and not a social club of sorts. Even the karaoke corner exudes luxury with a red velvet sofa. As there are only 2 bowling lanes in the VIP room, you’d still be entertained as you sing some karaoke tunes while you wait for your turn.
KTV veterans – you’ve probably tried every karaoke studio out there but they’ll most likely pale in comparison to the Deluxe Room. This massive room holds up to 8 people for just $22/hour for members and students, which averages out at $2.75/hour per person. It’s part of Paradise Now, a bar and bistro within Sonic Bowl.
Non-members have to pay a little more at $26/hour, which is still an excellent price for the quality and size of the rooms. There are only 3 rooms at the moment so book one early to take this new spot for a spin with your karaoke kakis. To book a room, drop Paradise Now a WhatsApp message at 6015 0811.
Also located within Paradise Now is a row of dart machines, an old pastime for some and a new experience for others. They’ve got more than just the classic game modes, and one that we foresee to be popular is the Survivor mode. Each player has coloured zones and if the opponent lands a dart on your zone, you’ll lose some health points based on the score of the “attack”.
If that isn’t enough to quench your competitive spirit, get a DARTSLIVE card and challenge players around the world online. If you’re unsure if playing darts is your thing, opt for the free online version of the card. Just download the DARTSLIVE app, make an account, and you’re good to go.
Scan the QR code on the machine to log in with your account to start making your way up the leaderboards. Do note that different game modes have different prices, but the basic game mode starts from $1.20/game.
Sonic Bowl SAFRA Choa Chu Kang and Paradise Now have unique experiences youths and adults will love. Where else can you get karaoke, darts, and bowling all in one place?
If you’re used to the family-friendly bowling alleys usually associated with Sonic Bowl, you’ll find that this outlet has a different vibe. TBH, we think it’s great for late-night hangouts with your friends – especially since it opens till 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. So even if you do have to make a journey to the West, consider dropping by – it’s worth the trip.
