9 Valuable Skills Employers Are Looking For Now, According To Top Job Sites

In-demand skills according to job sites

It’s a known fact that the job market in Singapore is competitive. And with last year throwing us curveballs like a pandemic and subsequent economic recession, it pays to stay relevant to employers. Besides working hard, one way to do this is by adding in-demand skills to your resume to stand out among a sea of candidates.

To stay on top of your game and emerge as the chosen one when applying to your ideal company, these are the top skills sourced from job sites like LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor. Check out the accompanying SkillsFuture Credit-eligible courses to equip yourself with them while you’re at it.

1. UX Design – high in demand for digitalised companies

Most of us practically live on the internet, whether it’s posting updates on social media, online shopping, ordering food or even paying our bills. Needless to say, with the digital world pretty much ruling our lives, companies aren’t turning a blind eye to digital products.

A quick scroll through online job postings will reveal a need for employees who are well-versed in UX (User Experience) design. This is basically how businesses make their apps, websites and devices user-friendly, functional, and aesthetic – good UX design is needed so users don’t end up lost and frustrated when they can’t navigate an app or website to find what they need.

UX design isn’t exclusive to the field of design either. For those working in managerial or strategic roles, there’s a slew of courses out there that’ll teach you how to milk UX design to a company’s advantage.

2. Artificial intelligence – next-gen staple in numerous industries

Most of us have watched our fair share of movies depicting the future, and most of the time, it involves robots serving – or taking over – the human race. We might not notice it just yet, but this is a reality that is possible, especially now that AI (Artificial Intelligence) has crept into our daily lives.

Think of the smart lighting or robot vacuum cleaners you use at home, the chatbot that helped troubleshoot your issue, or even the cute cleaner robots you see at airports and hotels. None of these would be possible without the use of AI. With the benefits of automation that AI brings, don’t be surprised to find businesses in Singapore jumping on the bandwagon as well.

Whether it’s to boost efficiency, solve problems quickly, or simply appeal to target audiences, businesses across different industries are regularly on the lookout for candidates with AI skills. Besides tapping on data to solve complex problems swiftly, companies also use it to get insights, develop strategies and make important business decisions.

Today, the ability to research and analyse big data makes you a valuable asset to almost any organisation. Apart from business analyst roles, data analytics is a relevant skill that you can apply to other roles, including engineering, accounting and advanced manufacturing.

Chances are, you’ve already heard a thing or two about Blockchain thanks to the popularity of Bitcoin in recent years. While it started with creating cryptocurrencies, the technology is now making waves beyond that, as it allows digital information to be stored and distributed with improved transparency, security and efficiency.

Blockchain was listed by LinkedIn as the most in-demand hard skill in 2020, so the future ahead is bright if you’re equipped with skills to develop Blockchain solutions. Predictions reveal that more than 70% of financial institutions will be adopting Blockchain technology as part of their future processes, and there’s also a burgeoning number of fintech startups in the market.
