From keeping me focused during last-minute cram sessions to keeping me spry for social events, I owe a huge part of my functional existence to coffee. Unfortunately, due to my small budget, I can only afford the instant kind. That’s why the Singapore Coffee Festival 2017 is a must-go for me.
From only $18, you can sample a wide range of coffee blends and learn about what makes a good cup of morning joe. Besides caffeine stuff, there are also performances to enjoy, markets to visit and pics to ‘gram.
Here’s what you can do at the Singapore Coffee Festival 2017.
1. Sample insta-worthy brews like Unicorn Tears and Coffee In A Cone
Firstly, the main thing you should do at this festival; drink lots of coffee! Sample a myriad of blends from over 80 exhibitors; from Caffè Vergnano 1882’s espresso to Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee’s cold brew.

Light up your Insta feed with the Coffee In A Cone from The Coffee Academïcs. The cone’s inner layer is coated with four chocolate compounds, preventing the coffee from spilling out.

Also recommended is the Unicorn Tears from Dapper Coffee. See the stars up close as you swirl this concoction. This lemon-tasting beverage is also free from caffeine, alcohol and gluten.
Non-coffee beverages, like HIC’s cold pressed juices and Boba Brew’s teas, are also available.
2. Hone your trading skills at Singapore’s largest Barter Market

Travel back to the days before money became currency at Indigoism’s Barter Market. On Saturday, 5th August, trade goods and services with over 30 vendors; ranging from F&B, retail and art. Items sought by vendors are typically food, cigarettes, books and toys.
If you don’t have these on you, you could offer services like massaging, singing or helping out at the event.

3. Unlock exclusive cafe perks with your SCF Coffee card after the festival

4. Witness coffee masters out-brew each other at the Singapore Aeropress Championship 2017

AeroPress machines work by steeping the coffee for 10 – 50 seconds and then forcing it through a filter, resulting in a concentrated but less acidic brew. This makes them an alternative for those who experience stomach discomfort when drinking regular coffee. As such, many baristas are learning how to master this machine in order to provide more options for customers.
At the Singapore Aeropress Championship 2017 presented by Common Man Coffee Roasters, baristas will put these skills to the test with the winner being flown to Seoul to represent Singapore in the World Aeropress Championship 2017.
Although sign-ups have ended, you can still come down to the Sunset Wharf on Friday, 4th August and uncover the secret to how winning brews are made.
5. Sign yourself up for fragrance-crafting and yoga workshops

If you need a break from coffee, sign up for Oo La Lab’s fragrance-crafting workshop and other family-friendly activities. Sample over 20 fragrance notes and create your own unique perfume.
If you’re looking for something more calming, opt for the free hatha yoga class conducted by Pure Yoga and emerge with increased awareness and stability.
6. Learn more about what goes into your coffee at these workshops

There are many layers behind a perfect cuppa. I’ve had moments when I can’t describe exactly why my morning coffee was delicious. This inability makes some people order the wrong type of coffee for them, which limits the range of flavours they can savour.
SCF has got you covered with a plethora of free coffee workshops, ranging from brewing, roasting and even how to take the perfect #cafehopping shot. So the next time you order coffee, you’ll truly know if you’re getting a good cup.

7. Sit in at lounge talks and get insider tips from various industry experts

Attend the lounge talks and learn that it’s never too late to follow your passion as panelists from Grab, Shopback and Boxgreen, and founders of cafes like Hyde & Co, Bettr Barista and Jewel Coffee, share how they made mid-career switches to start-up or barista life respectively.

8. Jam along to local music acts like iNCH, Lewis Loh and Ffion

From 5 – 6th August, drop by Sunset Wharf for live performances from local acts like iNCH, Lewis Loh and Ffion. Be mesmerised by their vocals as you sip coffee by the evening sea.
9. Engage with writers and artists at SWF POP

In line with this year’s theme, “espresso’self”, many artists will incorporate coffee into their acts such as Singapore Writers Festival’s SWF POP which will have artists competing to create coffee-based art. Join in the fun as your prompts will determine the outcome of the artworks.
Calling all java junkies to the Singapore Coffee Festival 2017

The Singapore Coffee Festival 2017 will be docking in at The Marina Bay Cruise Centre from 4th – 6th August 2017. Back for a second round, this year’s festival will see over 100 exhibitors. For a more enjoyable experience with reduced crowds, the event will be split into two sessions daily; Brunch from 10am to 3.30pm and Sundown from 4.30pm to 10pm.
