The Hello Singapore Sanrio pop-up at Marina Square is cute, with photo ops and SG-themed merch to cop. But true Sanrio fans know that’s still not enough – we want to breathe, live, and even eat all things Sanrio if we could. And now, you actually can.
Iconic Marjorie Hotel Penang has just launched Sanrio Characters-themed rooms that are almost too cute to handle. And the experience goes beyond just the room decor – you’ll also have the chance to bring merch home, as well as enjoy a Sanrio-themed afternoon tea set that’s included with your stay.
The current exchange rate is S$1 = RM3.17 as of 22nd July 2026.

One of the must-visit attractions in Penang is the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, as the Malaysian state is known for its rich Peranakan culture. So, it’s only fitting that the hotel’s Sanrio Characters rooms are designed with Peranakan-inspired touches, making them the 1st of their kind in Southeast Asia.

During your stay, keep an eye out for details like pillow covers with floral motifs that carry meaning in Peranakan culture, as well as room decor influenced by the colourful Peranakan tiles.

The experience starts even before you enter your hotel room as you walk along corridors lined with Sanrio Characters wallpaper. Each door also features the characters peeking out from above the room number.

BTW, even the room keycard isn’t your standard hotel keycard – it comes themed after the Sanrio character you’ve picked for your stay.

In case you haven’t already spotted them in the images above, the spotlight is on 3 fan-favourite characters for this collaboration: Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi. These iconic characters have been loved by fans for decades, and it’s easy to see why.

Each room is decked out in colours that match its character, from Hello Kitty’s signature red to Cinnamoroll’s blue and Kuromi’s purple.
A giant character feature sits above the headboard too, so you can take that mandatory hotel bed photo with the cutie as your backdrop.

Beyond picking your favourite Sanrio character for your stay, you’ll also get to choose from different room types. A quick look at the booking site shows options including Deluxe Double or King, Premier, and Junior Suite rooms.
The main difference is the room size and layout, but if you splurge on a suite, you’ll also enjoy extra perks such as shoe shine service, evening cocktails, and all-day refreshments.

We’ve all had that auntie moment of bringing home hotel toiletries, whether it’s the body lotion, toothbrush, or slippers. And when they’re Sanrio-themed? It’ll take even more self-control to leave them behind.

The cups, coasters, bedroom slippers, bathrobes, and toiletries – including the shaving kit and comb – are all customised to match the Sanrio character you’ve chosen.

While the hotel’s website doesn’t explicitly state which items are yours to keep, the no-brainer ones like toothbrushes and notepads should be safe. We’d still recommend checking with the staff first, lest you accidentally leave with something that wasn’t meant to go home with you.

Or just purchase them from the merchandise store before you leave – you’ll get to browse a selection of collectibles and everyday essentials here.

And that’s not all. Your stay also includes daily breakfast, along with a one-time Sweet Trio Afternoon Tea featuring a selection of savoury bites and sweet treats inspired by Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi.

Even if you’re visiting Penang without staying at Iconic Marjorie Hotel Penang, you can still book the themed afternoon tea at RM199 (~S$62.70) for 2 pax.

At the time of writing, a Deluxe Double room starts from RM799/night (~S$251.60) on a weekday, though prices will fluctuate depending on the date of your stay and demand.
Considering that your stay includes breakfast, the Sweet Trio Afternoon Tea, and RM50 (~S$15.80) worth of F&B credits redeemable at the hotel’s Loom & Leafs Lounge, we’d say it’s pretty worth it TBH.
Whether you’re team Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, or Kuromi, these themed rooms are bound to make your Penang trip a whole lot cuter. This is a stay that’s well worth adding to your itinerary, especially if you’re a die-hard Sanrio fan.
