You Can Kayak Through Punggol On A Guided Tour To Explore The Waterways & Spot Wildlife

SAFRA Punggol’s River of Life kayak tour

When we think of kayaking in Singapore, the first place that comes to mind is usually The Kallang’s Water Sports Centre. But what if I told you there’s a more unconventional spot where you can explore a longer stretch of water while getting closer to nature?

That’s where SAFRA Punggol’s River of Life kayak tour comes in. Spanning 5km to 6km along Punggol Waterway, the tour takes you past heartland architecture and lush greenery, with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife along the way.

It’s a fun way to spend the weekend with the family or switch up the usual date with a little outdoor adventure, so here’s everything you need to know about the kayaking tour.

What is the River of Life kayak tour?

Organised in collaboration with Fever Kayak Adventures, the River of Life experience lets you explore Punggol’s waterways and scenic sights at a leisurely pace.

You’ll be using a Hobie Mirage Drive kayak, which uses underwater fins powered by foot pedals to propel you forward, much like riding a bicycle. This takes the strain off your arms and leaves them free to snap photos of the scenery.

The tour is beginner-friendly, so you don’t need any prior kayaking experience to join. You can choose between a single-seater kayak or a double-seater, with life jackets provided for all participants.

Certified instructors will also kayak alongside the group throughout the tour to guide you along the way. Each participant also gets a VHF walkie-talkie radio to hear live commentary on Punggol’s history and local wildlife.

Keep your eyes peeled as you pedal, as your guides will point out interesting sights and critters along the route.

What can I see on the tour?

Your kayaking adventure begins at SAFRA Punggol. Make your way to the floating pier and spot Fever’s bright yellow and orange kayaks waiting by the water. The guides will provide your safety equipment and run through a safety briefing before you hit the water.

Iconic architectural landmarks in Punggol

One of the first landmarks you’ll spot along the route is the Adventure Bridge, a pedestrian suspension bridge in Punggol Waterway Park designed with wood-inspired steel frames. From water level, you’ll get a closer look at its rustic, timber-like understructure as you glide beneath it.

Keep your cameras ready as Waterway Point comes into view, with the mall’s modern architecture forming a scenic backdrop along the waterway. Take the opportunity to snap some group photos with the mall in the background before pedalling on to the next stretch.

Another landmark to look out for midway through the journey is Jewel Bridge, which stands out with its distinctive dome-shaped structure. Its unique design makes it another great spot to snap a few photos as you pedal past.

We won’t spoil all the sights just yet, but expect to pass plenty of scenic bridges, waterfront views, and familiar landmarks along the way. The loop route lets you explore a good stretch of Punggol’s waterways before pedalling back to SAFRA Punggol.

Spot plants & wildlife, including resident otters

Beyond the buildings, look out for wildlife such as butterflies, dragonflies, and the occasional monitor lizard hiding among the greenery. The waterway is also home to over 100 bird species, including local and migratory varieties, making it a great spot for wildlife enthusiasts.

Along the way, your guides will share fun facts about native plants and herbs commonly used in local cuisine. Keep an eye out for wild pandan and lemongrass, which are used in local favourites such as pandan chiffon cake and nasi lemak.

One of the tour’s highlights is spotting Punggol’s resident otter family as you pedal along the waterways. These playful smooth-coated otters call the area home, so you might spot them swimming by or splashing around in the water.

What do I need to bring for the tour?

While the kayaks are suitable for seniors and families, participants must be at least 5 years old. Children aged 5 to 12 must share a tandem kayak with an accompanying adult.

Make sure to wear covered water shoes or strapped sandals for the trip. Don’t forget your sun and bug protection, including sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and insect repellent. Bring along a water bottle too to stay hydrated throughout.

How can I book a River of Life tour?

Prices start from $49.90 per kayaker, and bookings are available through Fever’s website or platforms like Klook and GetYourGuide. Each session lasts about 2 hours, with 2 morning slots available each day: 7.30am to 9.30am and 10am to 12pm.
