Punggol Heritage Trail: New Walking Trail With Nostalgic Features Like An Old-School Bus Stop

Punggol Heritage Trail in Punggol North

With the launch of Walking Trails@CDC, it seems like we’re seeing an uptick of hikers who’re lacing up to clock in their daily steps. But if you’re not in it for the supermarket vouchers, going for a short walk also does wonders in clearing the mind as you give your feet a workout. For North-Easties, you’ve got a new trail to conquer – the Punggol Heritage Trail.

This short walking trail is located in Punggol North, and was recently opened in late August. From preserved features like a quaint bus stop-turned shelter to the various nuggets of history you can pick up along the trail through signs, here’s all you need to know before you head down for a saunter.

What to expect at Punggol Heritage Trail?

The Punggol Heritage Trail is a new walking trail in Punggol North that was opened on 23rd August 2025. However, only the first 400m of the trail is available for the public to explore for now, while the remaining 900m is expected to open up by the end of 2026. The entire Punggol Heritage trail will stretch from Punggol North Avenue to Campus Boulevard, offering both the corporate crowd and students from the nearby Punggol Digital District a great place to unwind.

But that’s not to say that the Punggol Heritage Trail isn’t worth a visit in its current state. For starters, it is built on the former Punggol Road, and many of the area’s distinctive features were carefully maintained. Visitors can meander through the trail’s undulating terrain and coastal forest habitats, now made all the more accessible for a leisurely stroll.

There’s also an old-school, yellow and orange-roofed bus stop replica to evoke even more nostalgia, and most of the existing greenery has been well-preserved for that rustic, countryside charm that Punggol was known for before it gave way to the HDB flats of today. In addition, various native tree species also complement the new trail; a few of them are known for attracting birds, so keep an eye out for feathered friends accompanying you on your walk.

For an impromptu, self-guided history lesson, there’s signage filled with fun facts about the history of Punggol strewn throughout the trail. They shed some light on the lesser-known tales of the area’s past, like how it used to play host to private zoos and, ironically, a pig farming district.

With the upcoming Adventure Playground and Backwoods Trail also slated to open along this stretch of the Punggol Heritage Trail by the end of 2025, it might be time to bring the kids out for a day out in the sun in the North-East. After all, the trail isn’t terribly long, so even younger tots and the elderly can enjoy this new addition to the Punggol precinct.
