We were recently invited down to the Pangdemonium’s rehearsal studios for a sneak peek into their upcoming Next To Normal production. After the success of Rabbit Hole earlier this year, we were super excited to see what other goodness Adrian and Tracie Pang’s Pangdemomium! had in store.
About Next to Normal
Next to Normal is a Pulitzer Prize winning musical the Rolling Stones described as “The Best Musical of the season by a mile”. And Pangdemonium! are again the first to bring such a quality production to Singapore. Yes, that’s right! You’ll get to see Adrian Pang, Sally Ann Triplett and the rest of their cast showcase their vocal abilities.
And we’ve been really impressed by what we’ve heard so far. Here’s a glimpse into one of the songs from the musical, “Superboy and the Invisible Girl” – performed live acoustically by Nathan Hartono, Julia Abueva and Linden Furnell.
Next To Normal tells the story of a fairly dysfunctional family – a mother struggling with bipolar disorder coupled with schizophrenic hallucinations along with her hapless husband who wrestles to keep his mind and family sane and intact.
The Cast of Next to Normal
The cast stars Sally Ann Triplett, Adrian Pang, Julia Abueva, Nathan Hartono, Juan Jackson and Linden Furnell. The music is by Tom Kitt, lyrics by Brian Yorkey and it is directed by Adrian’s wife, Tracie Pang.
Yes, you may have come across West End star Sally Ann Triplett’s name before, shes been in Chicago, Cabaret, Mama Mia!, Cats among dozens of other shows!
Official synopsis:
“Pangdemonium’s Next To Normal tells the extraordinary roller-coaster story of Diana (Sally Ann), a woman battling bipolar disorder coupled with schizophrenic hallucinations; and her hapless husband Dan (Adrian Pang), who fights to keep her mind stable and his family intact. Things get even more complicated when Diana defies her Doctor, and resorts to desperate measures.
Diana’s and Dan’s struggles put a strain on their relationship with their teenage daughter Natalie, who is herself barely coping with her own growing pains and blossoming relationship with her boyfriend, Henry. Meanwhile Diana has created a superhero-like image of her son Gabe – who is not all that he may seem… ‘Normal’ is not a word you’d use to describe this family.”
