With the opening of New Bahru earlier this year, yet another unique lifestyle mall has been added to the list in Singapore. Kada at Maxwell is the newest trendy destination in town, and the once-colonial building has turned into a fun, vintage space with many cafe options and fitness facilities.

Located in Maxwell, Kada is the newest lifestyle and recreational area right smack in the heart of the CBD area. The 3-storey colonial-style building dates back to the 1920s and was once the former site for the St. Andrew’s Mission Hospital. It’s now become a bustling hub with cafes, fitness studios, and even a hotel.
The building is next to the iconic Maxwell Food Centre, so head down after a satisfying hawker meal to check out the area. Alternatively, it’s also a convenient 3-minute and 7-minute walk from Maxwell MRT and Tanjong Pagar MRT respectively.

Fun fact: Singapore’s first electric lift was built here in 1929 and is still in use today!
Tanjong Pagar is one of the top spots for cafe hunting, and the opening of Kada has added more to the list of aesthetic coffee shops to visit in the area.

Pop by Pacto by Parchmen for a refreshing afternoon cuppa. This cute cafe serves speciality coffees and teas, like the Coconut Matcha ‘Cloudy’ ($6), which has a refreshing tropical flavour, and the Yuzu Iced Black ($6), which has a citrusy kick.
There are dine-in seatings, or if you’re in a hurry, order your drinks to-go through a window and watch as the baristas whip up your refreshments right in front of your eyes.

For Alfresco dining vibes, ECHO is a newly established cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. Try some of their unique drinks and bakes, such as the Chilli Bacon Loaf ($6), for a spicy kick. Pair it with Here Comes The Sun ($7.50), an espresso tonic with passionfruit puree for a bittersweet finish.
