In our eyes, JB is a fairytale-esque land that essentially has something for every crowd. Cafe-hoppers have options left, right, and centre with the slew of cafes in JB, while shoppaholics can visit malls like Johor Bahru City Square and KSL City Mall for some slaphappy spending.
Well, it looks like gamers and hobbyists now have a reason to make their way across the causeway as well, to swing by Impulse Gaming Mid Valley Southkey. It’s a spacious hobby store across the border that just opened its doors earlier this year in June; here’s what you can expect heading into this hobbyist haven.

Impulse Gaming Mid Valley Southkey is a huge hobby store located in The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru. This Mid Valley Southkey outlet happens to be their flagship store, but they’ve got 2 other stores in JB. One is found in Toppen Shopping Centre further inland at Mount Austin, while their JB headquarters is over at Taman Pelangi, just a 6 minutes drive from KSL City Mall.
Their Mid Valley Southkey branch is the newest of the bunch, as they’ve only recently had their grand opening in June of 2024. As such, the store is a huge crowd magnet which draws in hoards of people to its swanky new premises.
Like its name suggests, Impulse Gaming Mid Valley Southkey sells game consoles, such as Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox series consoles. They also have gaming peripherals for PC gamers, and even gaming chairs to deck out your battlestation back at home.
Hobbyists can also find anime-related merch here, along with Gundam model kits and LEGO sets, while blind box collectors have shelves upon shelves to browse, with POP MART blind boxes being the fan favourite here.
A section of the store is dedicated to PlayStation products.

With blind boxes still being all the rage this day; case in point, the perpetually crowded POP MART ION Orchard – it’s no surprise that Impulse Gaming Mid Valley Southkey has an impressive selection of them to consider taking home.
POP MART fans will be able to spot familiar characters like Molly, Dimoo, and LABUBU, alongside full cases of blind boxes themed after popular franchises like Sanrio and Disney.
Fans of Anime will love this one, as Ichiban Kuji’s prizes typically feature goodies from popular series like My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, and One Piece.

For those who’re not the biggest fans of blind boxes but would still like to test their luck, the store also has a wall dedicated to Ichiban Kuji. It’s a Japanese sure-win lottery where you draw a ticket for a particular series, and based on the ticket you draw, you’ll win a corresponding prize.

Speaking of Japanese goods, the store also has a whole row of Gachapon machines to slot your loose change into, as well as bigger-scale anime figurines that can set you back a pretty penny.
Impulse Gaming Mid Valley Southkey is also known for its wide range of model kits, and hobbyists have noted that prices here are a little cheaper than what you’d pay back in Singapore.
As for plushy lovers, you’re in luck as the store also has a whole bunch of them stashed on their shelves. Cuddle buddies include giant Lotsos from Toy Story, Sanrio favourites like My Melody and Cinnamoroll, plus a whole crew of Pikachu dressed in quirky outfits. There’s also a LEGO corner tucked away, with DIY kits from Minecraft and Harry Potter.
Of course, trading card game enthusiasts will not be disappointed at the store’s TCG offerings. The various sets of the ever-popular Pokémon TCG are up for grabs, while other card games like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic: The Gathering are also on their seemingly endless catalogue.
Whether you’re an avid gamer or simply looking for somewhere to jalan jalan when you’re in JB, Impulse Gaming Mid Valley’s just the place to stop by. You might just spend your whole afternoon here perusing their immense inventory of goods, so be wary of jio-ing your friends who go bananas at the mere mention of blind boxes.
