Hush – Singapore’s First Silent TeaBar Opens And Brings The Party To You

About Hush Silent TeaBar

Source: Hush Silent TeaBar

Hush TeaBar is Singapore’s first silent tea bar, and their main goal is to steer us away from our hectic work lives to reach a place of relaxation and inner peace. As of now, the tea bar does not occupy a permanent space – they bring the entire experience right to your doorstep.

What I love most about Hush TeaBar is that they’re a social movement. They aim to bridge the gap between us and the hearing impaired, by creating dignified employment opportunities and an inclusive environment for them. The entire programme is run by the hearing impaired, who are referred to as TeaRistas.

In a place of silence, you’ll realise that there’s no difference between you and the friendly TeaRistas. No words needed to be spoken for us to understand one another, and it made for a truly humbling experience.

The Experience

The Hush experience comprises of 4 zones, each designed to aid you in your journey towards peace, self awareness, and tea appreciation.

Zone 1

In the first zone, we got to find out more about 4 of Hush’s original tea blends – Delectably Robust, Sweetly Intimate, Undoubtedly Quirky and Freshly Tranquil. The blends are all made of natural ingredients, so there’s no caffeine in them.We each had a whiff of the tea blends and picked out our favourite. Undoubtedly Quirky struck me as the most intriguing, with its scent of sour fruit, sweet cream, and vanilla all rolled in one. I picked up the leaf to indicate the blend I wanted to try and moved on to Zone 2.

Zone 2

In Zone 2, we were made to surrender our beloved phones. Some may find it unnecessary, but being technology-free felt liberating – albeit for a short period. We then drew a Hush card holding a handwritten message from a previous Husher.

Zone 3

We were then led to Zone 3, where we enjoyed a tea brewing demonstration conducted by the lovely TeaRistas. The demonstrators flipped through a pretty scrapbook filled with inspirational quotes as the tea was being brewed at the back, and it was overall an enjoyable and soothing experience. After the demonstration, we were led to a personal Hush zone where we could enjoy the tea we picked out in complete silence and with our eyes closed.Source: Hush Silent TeaBar

As I took my first sip of Undoubtedly Quirky, the flavour struck me as extremely different from what I had smelled in Zone 1. Turns out I got a cup of Freshly Tranquil instead by mistake, which was a little underwhelming and slightly bitter.

I managed to taste the rest of the teas at the end of the programme, and Undoubtedly Quirky still appealed the most to me with its hints of sweet vanilla and tangy fruits.

Zone 4

We proceeded to the last zone, also known as the ‘Expression Zone’. We were given four different tea dyes to dip our fingers in and express our creativity on a blank canvas, and it was like being a child playing with food again. Our masterpieces

We moved on to a final session of reflection and sharing to conclude our Hush experience.

Afterthoughts

Driven by a passion for sharing the importance of self awareness and a respect for the hearing impaired, Hush Silent TeaBar proves to be a worthwhile experience that’s healthy for the soul.

It’s a nice little break from our hectic schedules and constant need for technological connectivity, but in the end, the calming experience is stil temporal. If you’re really into meditation, achieving self awareness and all that zen stuff, you’ll definitely have to do more.

If you enjoy an interesting cup of tea in the comfort of complete silence, invite Hush TeaBar over to your workplace for a memorable experience for the with your colleagues. The more support they get, the more opportunities they can create for the hearing impaired.

Contact Hush

Hush Silent TeaBar does not have a permanent location, but will bring the experience to wherever is convenient for you. Give them a try for an experience you won’t have anywhere else, or bring them up when planning for your next office bonding session!
