12 Things To Do In Fu Lu Shou Complex – SG’s Feng Shui Paradise Just A 2-Min Walk From Bugis MRT

Fu Lu Shou Complex

Not on many Singaporeans’ radar, Fu Lu Shou Complex is a hidden gem in Bugis just waiting to be discovered. With so many feng shui-related shops, the mall is a paradise for any fortune and wellness enthusiast.

But wait, there’s more. Our recent trip to the complex revealed that you can also get an affordable foot massage, shop for vintage audio systems, and chomp on a decent vegetarian meal here.

1. Buy an amethyst geode cave at Kang Li Mineral Kingdom

With everyone talking about the importance of mental health and well-being, it’s no wonder there’s a current obsession with crystals. Natural wonders formed from volcanic activity, amethyst geode caves are not only beautiful but are also said to emit positive energy and have a calming effect.

Get yours from Kang Li Mineral Kingdom, a feng shui shop full of blessed ornaments such as crystal trees and jewellery. The geode caves come in all sorts of sizes, from small ones to place in your bedroom to larger standing ones that can double up as decor pieces in the living room.

Pro tip: Place the cave next to your nightstand to absorb ‘em good vibes all night long.

Around since 1989, Kang Li Mineral Kingdom is owned by Feng Shui Master Lim who offers his services in the field of feng shui consultancy. His children have followed suit in the profession and also conduct aura and tarot readings both at the store and online.

When you’re at the retail shop, don’t forget to catch a glimpse of the 10-million-year-old amethyst geode cave that was discovered in southern Brazil in 1995. It took about a year of searching and over a month to extract from deep within the mountain.

2. View a rare 4-faced Buddha statue at Fu Lu Shou Si Mian Fo

A 2-in-1 temple and shop, Fu Lu Shou Si Mian Fo is visited by Buddhist worshipers daily. You can come here to pray as well as procure Buddhist religious artefacts such as statues. They even have an in-house amulet engraving service by skilled technicians.

Mark your calendars next time Vesak Day comes around, as traditional Thai dancers are known to perform in the open area at the entrance of the store during special occasions.

Thanks to its rare 4-faced Buddha statue, word has spread and even tourists can be seen flocking to the shop. The faces represent health, career, love, and wealth. The proper way to pray is to go around the statue in a clockwise direction.

You can also light a candle as an offering in front of the many statues around the temple for $2.

In the far left corner of Fu Lu Shou Si Mian Fo, you’ll spot a bowl filled with fragrant water, decorated with lotus flowers housing baby Buddha. There is a ritual of bathing infant Buddha that is meant to symbolise the cleansing of worldly sins such as greed and ignorance.

3. Get a home karaoke system from Top Shop Electronics

Top Shop Electronics is one of those retro stores that sell all sorts of audio equipment including amplifiers and speakers. If you want to recreate a KTV lounge in the comfort of your home, grab a karaoke system from this place.

The most affordable option starts at $330 and includes a mid-sized speaker with 2 wireless microphones. Simply connect it to any smart TV or desktop monitor, and you’re ready to belt out your favourite tunes at the top of your voice.

Run by a father-son duo, the shop offers hassle-free delivery and setup of the equipment within 48 hours.

Oh, and if you’re looking for vintage stuff such as walkmans and discmans, you’ll be able to find them in working condition here. For the uninitiated, a walkman is the mini cassette player that Max from Stranger Things uses to play her favourite song and protect herself from Vecna.

A little extra help in the department of finances can’t hurt. To attract such good fortune, Jin Yu Man Tang’s Feng Shui wealth bowls (from $106) are extremely popular. The store specialises in colourful Liu Li ornaments handcrafted by artisans using the age-old glass casting technique.

Fill the money bowl with items that signify prosperity such as gold ingots, coins, and faux diamonds. Pieces of art in themselves, the bowls also make for a pretty display on your shelves. Unlike our fluctuating bank accounts, the colour doesn’t fade over time.

If you’re feeling like a full body rejuvenation is required, opt for the foot and shoulder massage combinations starting at $38 for 40 minutes.

The centre has a cosy couples’ room, perfect for alone time with bae or a gossip session with a mate. If you want even more space, book a private room and block the world out for up to 3.5 hours.

Apart from multiple good reviews on the masseurs, customers have lauded the place for being well-maintained and clean. Plus, there are free charging cables and blankets next to every seat, so you can binge-watch your show while getting a massage without worrying about draining your phone battery.

6. Chase away mosquitoes with cypress wood from Musheng Pavilion

We’d say yes to a gorgeous home decor piece that also acts as a mosquito repellent device. All the artefacts and statues at Musheng Pavilion are made from an extremely rare species of cypress wood known to have a scent that fends off insects. Mosquito breeding prevention has never looked so aesthetic.

Grown in the mountains of northern China, these cypress trees have a very specific woody fragrance of wild trees with a sweet undertone. The scent has beneficial properties such as purifying the air and alleviating insomnia.

Smaller wooden trinkets start at $8.

The store has small to medium pieces that can be placed on side tables and shelves, as well as large standing wooden statement pieces.

Pro tip: Although the pieces won’t get spoilt by weather conditions if kept outdoors, the fragrance won’t be as prominent. So, keep them indoors to reap the full benefits.
