So it was Tuesday, and the pleasure of eating brunch on a weekday is just… great. We’re all often too busy to sit down and have a relaxed breakfast/lunch/brunch on a weekday morning, most of us just grab a slice of toast or fruit and scoot out the door. Whether is it at a relaxed cafe or in an abuzz market, the fulfilment and joy of dining with your loved ones over a meal cannot be put to words.
And oh, one thing, my favorite meal of the day HAS to be Brunch. Brunch‘s spectrum is really wide, you can have it at 9am or even at 5pm, no one can really fault you. Eggs, french toast, pancakes, breakfast platters, I could eat them anytime of the day. Which is why I always keep my eyes peeled for cafes or restaurants selling all day breakfasts.
It was a rather meaningless and unfulfilled day, having almost no serious classes with some being cancelled too, leaving us with a 4 hour break before the next lesson, which wasn’t really a lesson- technically. So, after a rejection from a very devoted security guard (we were locked in- this had never happened before), we managed to leave only after the gate opened officially. I have been to Choupinette a couple of times, and I must say it’s a cosy little hole-in-the-wall cafe, a french bakery, patisserie and restaurant all in one package. Many people have raved about their egg’s benedicts and well, they didn’t disappoint the first time I had them.
Well, enough of my boring anecdotes, let the pictures do the talking!
We ordered a Tristan’s set to share, which was essentially a breakfast platter which comes with your choice of juice and hot drinks (coffee, tea, hot chocolate). That bloody liquid there? Cranberry juice. And a rather huge cup of hot chocolate which was flavored with Hershey’s chocolate syrup (which my friend later found out).
Look at the chocolate chips dotting the buttery, flakey scrolls of the pastry. It was warmed before serving, and we both inhaled it in no time. Chocolate danishes like that are less easy to find around as compared to the usual ones- apple, sultana roll, croissant, chocolate croissant etc.
And another picture, solely focused on the pastry. Y’know, just in case you haven’t processed the image above.
80% gone. Still waiting for our main.
Our Breakfast platter. Chicken sausage which looked like a (get your mind out of the gutter) smiley face, a toasted wholemeal bread roll, 2 poached eggs, sauteed mushrooms and a grilled tomato. Greasy grub.
And she was like “take this!”
Okay, take again. Recommended shot by her, can’t disappoint you see!
How could we not order desserts?
& the conversation went like that.
Me: Do you want to order dessert? I’m fine if you don’t.
Her: Erm, anything, I don’t mind!
Me: That means yes (luh)! Hahahaha
Her: -smile- ( in a way that showed that her intention was exposed by me)
Lemon meringue tart. The curd was harder than the ones I’ve tried (Baker & Cook, Carpenter & Cook- Yes, the 2 cooks). Could taste the gritty bits of sugar in the meringue.
Another recommended shot by her, cannot don’t put. She’ll be so proud of me. -beams-
Still cleared up all, nevertheless.
Ignoring the fact that just beside us, separated by a glass, is a huge “longkang” aka drain.
A quiet place for a quiet brunch, except that prices may be a little on the steep side.
Visit and you’ll find out!
