Capitol Singapore’s unique finds
The long wait is over! Capitol Theatre is back in the game and it’s glitzier than ever. I don’t think our eyes have ever seen something that exhibits the balance of old and new so perfectly. And that’s not all that’s classically futuristic, accompanying our favourite old school landmark, is the Capitol Singapore.
Armed with a classy assortment of entertainment, retail, and F&B; it won’t be long before this dynamic duo make their way into your heart. We’ve scouted the place for ourselves and now bring you 10 stellar things you can do at the Capitol Singapore.
1. Check out pop-up events and activities that’ll take you by surprise
A pop up yoga session to commemorate World Yoga Day
While some of us hold back urges to picnic on the pristine astroturf just outside Capitol Singapore, others set up shop. This picture-perfect area is actually the site of many pop-up events and activities held in conjunction with Capitol Singapore.
Known officially as the Outdoor Plaza, plenty of events happen within that circular space. While we were there, the pop-up Makers Market had taken over the plaza. A pop-up flea market featuring Singaporean handicraft makers, they were selling everything from handbags to jewellery.
Mark your calendars, Makers’ Market will be returning in full swing on the 10 and 11 September, so we’ll see you at the Outdoor Plaza.
According to Capitol Singapore’s schedule, there are also Zumba workouts by Fitness@Work being held there on every Tuesday evening! To find out just what exciting events are happening at Capitol Singapore, check out their Facebook or website.
2. Feel like a Kingsman at Truefitt & Hill
Gentlemen, it’s time to suit up. The 2015 flick ‘Kingsman’ is one of my favourite films, and I’m sure we’ve all harboured dreams of being a secret agent.
If you want to be a gentleman spy like the Kingsman agents, head over to Truefitt & Hill for a grooming session that will leave you looking super dapper.
Stepping in through the doors transports you into a different world, one with polished wood, checkered floors, and men in suits. Every member of the Truefitt & Hill team is dressed to the nines, in waistcoats and ties – you feel like you’ve entered the elite tailor shop that serves as a front for Kingsman.
Get a stylish haircut, or experience a traditional Hot Towel Wet Shave. They also offer beard styling and trimming services, as well as massages and manicures – who says men can’t have a spa day?
Apart from their grooming services, Truefitt & Hill sells products like aftershave and cologne, as well as stylish hats, wallets, and even walking canes to channel the true British gentleman style.

3. Pamper yourself with beauty products from international brands
If you’re a bit of a beauty connoisseur who likes trying out different brands from around the world, a visit to Capitol Singapore should definitely be on your agenda.
Aside from popular eco-friendly labels like Aesop, Aveda and The Body Shop, they have lots of other international skincare brands such as -417 and Lancôme. Capitol Singapore also houses the only Lancôme Beauty Institute in Singapore, dedicated to pampering you from top to toe with their sensory light therapy and aromatherapy.
Get your K-beauty fix from Sulwhasoo, a high-end Korean beauty label that uses traditional Korean herbal remedies and philosophies to revitalise and protect your skin. With more than 50 years spent researching skincare needs, they’ve infused their products with ingredients prized for their medicinal qualities like Ginseng and Red Pine to help women combat the ticking clock.
And if you’re into pretty soaps and fragrant creams, Soap Stories specialises in handcrafted soaps from Amsterdam, as well as other skincare products. They also have a unique nail care set that’ll leave you with beautiful hands, in packages that are shaped like books – they’re called Soap Stories for a reason.

4. Sample craft beer from around the world
Beer lovers, rejoice, for TAP Craft Beer Bar is here to make your dreams come true. Featuring an impressive array of craft beers from places like US and UK, TAP is the place to go to unwind with drinks and snacks after a hard day’s work.
The variety of beers available boggles the mind – if you find yourself at a loss, chat with the friendly bartenders to find out what they recommend! I asked them what I should try, and they told me to give the Crossroads Summer Ale, which is a local craft beer, a shot. It was refreshingly light and slightly fruity – two thumbs up from me!
TAP’s happy hour promotions are nothing to scoff at – running 7 days a week from 12-8pm, you can enjoy a half pint of selected beer for just $5, or a full pint at $10.
And if you want a greater selection, you’ll be able to get $4 off a full pint of your choice from 12-5pm, and a discount of $3 from 5-8pm. Talk about having a good reason for that midday drink.
If you’re not a fan of beer, they have other items on the menu, such as ciders, craft spirits and wine. Plus, every drink you order comes with a free bowl of salt-and-pepper popcorn – the perfect accompaniment to an ice-cold beer.

5. Appreciate art from different galleries
Visionairs Gallery Asia
Capitol Singapore is home to something you wouldn’t expect to see in a mall – art galleries. There are three art galleries that call Capitol Singapore their home, and each of them is unique in their own way.
Eagle’s Eye pop-up exhibition Source
Eagle’s Eye Art Gallery occasionally has a pop-up gallery within the mall itself – when we were there, they had an exhibition just a few steps away from 45R. Their exhibitions are interested in art that portray social narratives, and will be super interesting for keen observers of society.

The other galleries are Visionairs Gallery Asia and Tokyo Gallery by Musée Collection, and they look similar to an art gallery you’d see in the Singapore Arts Museum, with art on display on the walls. While both galleries have contemporary exhibits, Visionairs has a stronger focus on international photography.

6. Celebrate SG pride with these woodcut art-pieces and miniatures
I love Singapore with all my heart, but the colours of our flag can sometimes err on the obiang side. However there are plenty of ways we can channel the Singaporean vibe in our homes, and these woodcut art-pieces and miniatures from ARCH fit the bill perfectly.
Laser cut and hand-assembled, ARCH has a whole array of products, ranging from framed art-pieces to decorative miniatures. They have all sorts of designs available, from orchids to shophouses and even the Merlion! Plus, if you are looking for a touch of nature to your decor, they also have many loving Kebaya birds and nature images to chose from.
Aside from art-piece and miniatures, ARCH also sells keychains, trinket boxes, and even jewellery! These make great souvenirs for friends visiting from out of town, or a thoughtful gift for someone who’s moving to another country – a subtle touch of Singapore they can take with them.
Imagine having a wood-carved picture of Marina Bay in your living room. It’s like showing off your national pride while channeling a beach villa vibe all at once!

7. Amp up your cool with these edgy brands
While some of us like to dissociate ourselves with the term hipster, there’s no denying these indie staples. Class up at CLOUT9, an international lifestyle and accessory store; lace up your first pair of boots from Dr. Martens; or slap some solid gold on your wrist with Nixon – no matter the choice, you won’t regret it.

From Sneaker King, Converse, to lord of leather-bound notebooks, Moleskine; Capitol Singapore unites all of our favourite alternative statement pieces under one roof.

8. Stuff your face with all kinds of delicious food…
When Capitol Singapore first opened, it was lauded as a foodie paradise, and it’s easy to see why. There’s just so much food available, easily appealing to different palates and preferences.
Tuck into a hearty serving of Balinese sticky ribs from Naughty Nuri’s, indulge in world-famous roast duck from Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant or sit back with a good cup of joe at 1933 by Toast Box.
If you’re looking for a midday bite around City Hall, some of the restaurants have great lunch deals. Four Seasons has 1-for-1 offers on their dim sum items and you can get either a pasta dish or a pizza from Spizza Mercato at only $12!
All the restaurants are done up really nicely, and the ambience is great. Whether you’re looking for a place to have a chill lunch with friends or a restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, Capitol Singapore has it made.

9. … and shop till you drop!
If there’s one thing you can definitely do at Capitol Singapore, it’s shop. While the shops there are a little more high-end, you’re paying for quality products and unique designs that you can’t get elsewhere.
Get quality basics from Japanese label 45R. Every design is handpainted, so no two pieces are really alike. Plus, all their clothes are made from 100% cotton, making them super comfy even in our Singapore heat.

And if you like bright and bold patterns, head over to Finnish brand Marimekko. They’ve got some of the most eye-catching prints I’ve ever seen, and the entire store is a riot of colour. From pretty dresses to laptop cases and even bedsheets and cushion covers, you’ll add vibrant hues to your entire life just by shopping here.

Capitol Singapore is home to other familiar labels, like Benjamin Barker and GOLDLION, and even local represents like The Reckless Shop, so your inner shopaholic can have some fun for sure.

10. Watch a movie at Singapore’s poshest movie theatre
The Capitol Theatre stands proudly like a testament to time. The theatre has many functions – apart from being a place to stage local and international musicals and plays, it can also be booked for private events and functions. However, come June and December, the theatre transforms into THE classiest cinema in town. Why hadn’t anyone thought of that earlier?
We all know the pain of being stuck with that front row seat in an ever-popular blockbuster movie, but watch it at the Capital GV, and you’ll never have that issue. With all of its circle seats for sale, you’ll always be able to secure a prime seat to sink back into and enjoy the show.
June’s just slipped by, but you can look forward to their December screenings!
Hidden gems in Capitol Singapore
The next time you’re in the City Hall area and are looking for a new mall to trawl through, take a stroll down to Capitol. There’s plenty to do and even more to see, and it’s great exploring a place that has so much history behind it.
Who knows, maybe you’ll fall in love and find something you want to take home with you while strolling around the mall. Onwards, it’s time for an adventure!
Mall Opening Hours: Daily, 10.30am – 10.30pm
