You’ve probably seen these public basketball courts peppered around Singapore. They’re mostly found in the vicinity of residential areas such as HDB flats. They’re free for all to use, whether you’re the next Steph Curry, or a novice looking for a fun way to burn extra calories.
However, because they essentially run on a first-come-first-serve basis, you might have to share a court with strangers. Do chat them up and see if they’re cool with taking turns to use the court. Who knows, you might find more basketball kakis to call on when you’re short on people.
Keep in mind that the lights for public basketball courts turn off around 9.30pm-10pm, indicating that the court is closed for the day. On another note, if you find that your neighbourhood’s basketball court requires some TLC, you can report any broken rims and errant potholes via the OneService app.
You’ll find the Duxton Plain Park basketball court tucked within Tanjong Pagar’s iconic Pinnacle@Duxton. Corporate folks working in the area, this one’s perfect for after-hours games to blow off some steam.
Address: New Bridge Road, Singapore 089140
For a break from the offbeat things to do in Bukit Purmei, you’ll find an unassuming basketball court at Bukit Purmei Block 112. It’s right next to a coffee shop, so you can take a quick water break before going back to sink those 3-pointers.
Address: 112 Bukit Purmei Road, Singapore 090112
Surrounded by towering HDB blocks, the basketball court at Telok Blangah Drive Block 45 is a lovely spot to host some games. The flooring is well-maintained and the court is enclosed by fences, so you don’t have to go chasing after your balls when they run out of play.

Bedok North Block 116’s basketball court is frequented heavily by nearby residents, as kids and adults alike can be seen having a jolly good time here on most evenings. The famous Bedok 85 Market is also a mere 200m away; head there if you’re looking to have a taste of the neighbourhood’s best eats.

You’ll find that onePA basketball courts are generally more well-maintained than the public courts. These can be found within community centres (CC), so they’re typically easily accessible by public transport, making for hassle-free venues to host your games.
There are even basketball interest groups on the onePA website you can sign up for if you’re looking for people to play with. These are free for all to join, and there are a bunch of them to choose from, such as Under-18s and gender-specific groups.
Price: Varies from CC to CC. Most of them are free to book, but certain locations require a booking fee that can range from $2-$10/hour. Do look up the prices on the onePA website or call up your local CC for any enquiries.
Court bookings are not a must to play at onePA basketball courts; they operate like the public courts. However, you can make bookings to secure some playtime at onePA courts, as users who’ve done so take precedence over those using the court for free. You can make bookings over the counter at CCs, or through the onePA booking page.
Do note that onePA basketball courts may be used for other CC-organised activities, so do enquire with your CC to ask if the court is in use before heading down for your games.
You will only be able to make court bookings by logging into the onePA website with your Singpass account. Those without one can head down to any CC to get assistance with signing up for a onePA membership.

PSA: Most basketball courts in Singapore don’t provide equipment. You can get affordable basketballs online from below $20 on Shopee and Decathlon if you’re just starting out with your pals.
Higher quality equipment like FIBA-certified balls and basketball-specific gear can be purchased from renowned sports retailers like Nike and Adidas if you’re looking to upgrade. Alternative options include JD Sports and Foot Locker as they’ve got a plethora of basketball shoes for sale. Pick up a pair to reduce the chance of picking up an injury during games.
There are plenty more basketball courts out there in Singapore; pretty much every HDB estate has one, so do a quick Google search of your neighbourhood to see which courts are nearest to you. But, now that you’ve got the know-how on booking the various types of basketballing venues, all that’s left is to jio your crew for a hearty workout sesh on court.
