Atelier Hotel – Budget hotel in JB

Who are we? Singaporeans! What do we love? JB!

Spending a day there is fun and all, but the real ones will know that nothing beats staying the night in our neighbouring country. You unlock late-night JB activities like night markets and karaoke, and don’t have to worry about dealing with the traffic jam at the end of the day. If international hotel chains are still out of budget, boutique hotels such as Atelier Hotel JB are a great alternative.

Cottage-style with rooms from just $30.50/night

At this 3-star establishment, the Economy Queen is priced from just RM118/night (~S$33). Nope, it’s not a typo, once you split it, that’s about S$16.50/pax for a good night’s sleep – a price tag we never see on this side of the causeway.

If you’re just looking for a crash pad and don’t mind the fact that there’s no window, you can get a Basic Room for 2 from just RM108/night (~S$30.50)

The building and each room are something out of a Pinterest board, with a hint of cottage-style aesthetic that brings to mind a homestay in the countryside. Once you step in, it’s cosy vibes all around with potted plants, brick walls, and wooden furnishings in the hotel lobby.

Come nightfall, bring some drinks up to the rooftop garden to stargaze at the outdoor deck.

The hotel is located in Taman Pelangi – a popular area for Singaporean vacationers since it’s right in the heart of JB, and close to the city’s key attractions. At Atelier Hotel, you’ll be just a 10-minute drive from the causeway, Mid Valley Southkey, as well as KSL Mall and its surrounding massage parlours. Bazaar Karat Night Market is only a 5-minute drive away too.

While not many hotels offer budget options for families, this cosy crib has Family Suites for 3 from a nifty RM188/night (~S$53). It comes with 1 king and 2 single beds, and even a bathtub so bring along all those unused bath bombs you have at home. Top up RM40/night (~S$11) to get a Family Quad Room for 4 if you’re coming with a larger group.

The next time you’re in need of a quick getaway – which, let’s be honest, it’s pronto – JB awaits with new and aesthetic cafes, free activities, and cosy stays like at Atelier Hotel. If you’re staying just one night, there are plenty of things to do near the causeway,  but if you can spare the time, we always recommend exploring lesser-known areas like with an exciting JB road trip
