Free Singapore flag for National Day
There was a time when HDB blocks would be decked out in Singapore flags every August, but that has become a rarer sight in recent years. So if you’d like to help bring back a splash of red and white this National Day 2026, the good news is that there’s still time to show your love for our Little Red Dot at the eleventh hour. Here’s how you can collect a free Singapore flag before National Day to be part of the celebration.

Why do we display the Singapore flag during National Day?

Displaying the National Flag is a simple yet meaningful way to celebrate our nation’s birthday, and it only takes a few minutes to do your part. This collective display also serves as a reminder of how far our country has come, while bringing people from all walks of life together in celebration.
Fun fact: It’s also the only time of the year when the rules surrounding the display of the National Flag are relaxed. More on that below.
When & where can I collect my free Singapore flag?
The distribution of National Flags began in end-June and will continue on a first-come, first-served basis until 8th August 2026, or while stocks last.

When should I display the Singapore flag?

You can start flying the Singapore Flag from 1st July to 30th September 2026.
During this period, both households and organisations are encouraged to display the National Flag. So whether it’s outside your HDB window or at your workplace, a little splash of red and white can go a long way in creating that National Day atmosphere.
How should I display the Singapore flag?

Of course, there are still a few guidelines to keep in mind to ensure the National Flag is displayed properly.
For starters, the Singapore flag can be displayed without a flagpole or night illumination – and this is only allowed during the National Day period.
Just remember to take your flag down by 30th September 2026. This helps to prevent it from becoming worn out or damaged from prolonged display, ensuring that our National Flag continues to be treated with the respect it deserves.
What other precautions must be taken when displaying the Singapore flag?

Here are some other things to take note of when displaying one at home:
- Avoid using a flag that’s torn, damaged, or worn out.
- If your flag is no longer in good condition, dispose of it properly by packing it into a sealed black trash bag before throwing it away. Ensure it’s not exposed in the bin.
- The National Flag must not be hung outdoors together with laundry, as this may be seen as an inappropriate way of displaying our national symbol.
