Where is Kukup located?

The Kukup Fishing Village is located in the Pontian district of Johor at the southwestern tip of Peninsular Malaysia. Being a kelong town means that Kukup is known best for its floating seafood restaurants built on stilts over the water, so you can look forward to a variety of fresh fish, prawns, crabs, and clams.
How to get to Kukup Village from Singapore?
Geographically speaking, Kukup is actually pretty near to Singapore, but you’ll still have to go through immigration at the Tuas or Woodlands Checkpoint in order to get to the fishing village. Getting to Kukup used to be pretty difficult, but ever since the Pulai River Bridge was built, you’re able to drive straight to Kukup from JB without having to make a detour north.
Your best option would be to drive down to Kukup, considering that buses there take approximately 4 hours to reach, as they won’t be going through the Pulai River Bridge. A car ride is a quick 55 minutes from JB Sentral, and if you don’t have a car, booking a Grab to Kukup is also possible.

Located near the Kukup Mangrove Nature Park is TAN Castle 陈堡度假屋. As its name suggests, you’ll be dining like kings here – guests frequently rave about the warm service and home-style meals, so you definitely won’t be leaving hungry.
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained too, with karaoke, mahjong, and poker cards available. You can even play with firecrackers and enjoy a small firework show over the waters. The rooms are also known for being clean, with sea views to wake up to. If you’re in the mood for a ride on the waters, the team at TAN Castle can also take you out.

You don’t have to fly all the way to Greece to snap a photo at one of their iconic walls when there’s Kukup Hello Home Stay 珊瑚海.民宿. Inspired by the buildings in Santorini, this resort offers both sea views and picturesque photo spots.
Signature blue-and-white look aside, Kukup Hello Home Stay also has a variety of activities you can choose from, such as karaoke and mahjong. You can even participate in unlimited kelong fishing for just RM20 (~S$6.34).
The downside is that meals are not provided, but the estate being just 1 minute on foot from the main entrance means that you’re close to several seafood restaurants, like the New Kukup Seafood Restaurant, which has been around since the 1960s.
Rates begin at RM250 (~S$79.10) for 2 people for a 1-bedroom and 1-living-room unit, with their biggest option being able to accommodate 15 people at RM700 (~S$220.63).

4. Love Chalet

5. Kukup Xiang Holiday Home

Located at the end of the jetty, Kukup Xiang Holiday Home gets unblocked views of the sea and a quieter setting away from the crowds. Mahjong and karaoke are a given, but this spot also has a pool table. Its location also makes for a peaceful getaway, although it will take you 10-15 minutes to walk to the main entrance.

Here’s another spot that’s serving up home-style dishes – Sinar Laut Resort 在水一方冷气度假屋. With all 6 meals provided for a 2D1N stay, including refills, you’re sure to leave Kukup filled. Accommodation-wise, Sinar Laut boasts a no-frills aesthetic, but you can still enjoy amenities like air conditioning, karaoke, mahjong, and even tuk-tuk rides to and from the resort.

There’s also an old-school charm to it, with vintage-style furniture and decoration that feels like stepping into your grandparents’ home. Dishes were refillable even though they do give lesser servings with each refill. If there’s a resort that can say it’s located in a prime spot, that’ll be the Mangrove Floating Chalet. Located right at the entrance of the jetty, you won’t have to venture far to get to the supermarket or to explore Kukup.
Food is also provided here, and reviewers have mentioned that the portions are generous. But some reviewers have noted that the food quality can be inconsistent. Still, with rooms starting at just S$50/night, it’s hard to argue with the value. Activities like karaoke and fishing are also available here.
