Kolej YPJ Bukit Senyum abandoned school in JB

If steel runs through your veins, urban exploring puts your adrenal glands into overdrive, and Singapore is fresh out of abandoned places for you to discover, it’s time you hoof it over the Causeway.

Just 10 minutes away from JB Sentral, Kolej YPJ Bukit Senyum is an abandoned school that’s been left to nature’s devices for the last 10 years, and you can walk straight in to check it out.

What is Kolej YPJ Bukit Senyum?

Former technical college that moved out in 2016

Once the stomping grounds for thousands of students, the technical college was shuttered for its move to a new campus in Kulai back in 2016.

As you might imagine, 10 years is a long time for any building to have been left unoccupied. The cavernous school hall is falling apart from the inside, with broken glass from the windows on the ground and debris everywhere.

Over in the classroom block, urban explorer @itruizaimi found a worksheet still intact, shielded by the glass on the noticeboard, whereas the rest of the classroom had been ravaged by the elements.

If you’re thinking of visiting, he mentions that the upper floors are cleaner and in relatively better condition than the rooms below.

Signs of habitation in the abandoned campus

According to a series of videos @itsruzaimi did of the building, he found signs of the campus being inhabited, with laundry being hung out to dry, and recently used water pipes in the rooms.

While he made a conscious effort to avoid running into the mysterious residents of the abandoned school, he did pose a legit question: why would the water supply in a vacant building still be running?

Is it haunted?

The million-dollar question is, of course, if the campus is haunted. Although there are no official tales of supernatural sightings in this abandoned school, @itsruzaimi mentioned feeling like he was being watched and getting rather spooked when he was touring the building.

However, comments on his post have mentioned creepy encounters in the school, or claimed to see shadows in his videos. Should you feel like experiencing any of these for yourself, you know where to go.

Unlike some other abandoned sites, which are not easy to get into, require that you join a tour, or are completely off-limits, like Villa Nabila in JB, this old Kolej YPJ Bukit Senyum campus is still free to enter.
