Classy? Yes. Comfortable? Yes. Clean? Yes. Golden Village has all the qualities that a movie-goer might look for for a movie screening. However, it doesn’t satisfy mine. So what if it’s classy and spacious when the prices are so expensive and the service i get from the crew is so bad? I always get a bitter feeling inside whenever i visit Golden Village.

Golden Village price its movie tickets much higher than its fellow counter parts. Just take a look at its student price. Other cinemas like Eng Wah, Shaw and Cathay sell student priced tickets at $6 or $6.50 and Golden Village? It’s an exorbitant $7 for a student ticket. This is like the price of a normal movie ticket in Eng Wah. You might call me a miser and just being anal about a few cents but i personally feel that Golden Village is exploiting its customers. It plays on the fact that it has many branches, in fact the most branches, in Singapore and so have no qualms about pricing its tickets much higher than the other cinemas since many of us still patronise them anyway.

Another thing about Golden Village that really makes me boil is the service they provide. The crew members behind the counter doesn’t even put in effort to smile or give us the quality service. They look up at you, ask you what do you want and when you seem to hesitate awhile about how many or what time of the movie tickets you should buy, they get impatient and show that they are impatient right in your face. This i cannot tolerate. We are all here to have a good time and nothing is worse than getting fed up before the movie. The bad service i received doesn’t happen just one or twice, but everytime i’m at Golden Village until i stopped going there entirely.

Golden Village is probably the most trusted and reliable cinemas in Singapore offering the one of the most/the most number of movie timeslots at their various branches in Singapore. The movie experience at Golden Village is Golden.

Their cinemas are spic-and-span with comfortable and thoughtful seats (you could lift the arm-rest up at Vivo's cinema theatres so you can your special one can cuddle throughout the movie. Awww). Late for your movie? Not to worry. The movies at GV usually start after a long stream of commercials and trailers. You're given 10 more minutes to the start of the movie.

GV is also great due to the discounts offered with for example, a Safra card, DBS debit cards and credit cards from other banks. Next, the customer service rendered is professional - well-trained staff prompt to book your seats and are accomodating to your needs.

If you're still not pampered enough, you could opt for GV's gold class experience with a free-flow of drinks and dining which I've always been wanting to try. It's definitely on my bucket list.

My first experience at GV couples cinema was a disappointing one. My boyfriend and I have been GV's regular customers for the past few years and decided to try out the new couples cinema at City Square mall. Given that there are really limited seats for each movie session, we booked our tickets online. The environment was a pleasant one. However, I feel that the staff should pay attention to minor details such as to switch off the lights before the start of the movie. Initially we thought that it was just a small negligence on their part and they would realise it soon, but it was not the case even after half an hour of the movie screening. My boyfriend ended up having to go out and inform them about it.

The couple cinema may hold very little viewers as compared to a usual movie theatre, but it does not suggest that staff should not be more careful. I feel that it is not worth paying $26 for such an experience, which excludes the booking fee. I'm just glad that we did not choose to watch it on a weekend.

Limited collectable items at gv!
Overall Rating

The best part I like about Golden Village is the popcorn combo! For those new blockbusters movie, there will be a new figuring/collectables item available with the popcorn combo set. This excites me every time a new movie is out because golden village is going to release a new collectables items!! From what I’ve known, golden village is the first to release this type of collectable items while other movie theaters like Cathay start to come out with it too. The recent Hunger Game was being offered the mocking jay pins to those who purchase the combo sets.
Example during the showing of Alvin and the chipmunks, they offered a combo of popcorns, drinks and a free collectible pen.

Also, Golden Village offers a variety of discount to different cardholders. DBS cardholders would be able to enjoy the privilege of watching at $7 on normal days while others have to pay more. An advice to those who have visa/MasterCard is to purchase their ticket online. Save more on the ticket and pay $1 on the booking fees is more worth it. In addition, you can also choose the seats that you want on that certain date. Highly recommended to those who love to collect limited edition items!

more golden than gold

Golden Village is one of Singapore's biggest cinema and there are no lack of cinema-goers despite its relatively steeper prices as compared to other cinemas. Student prices are only from Monday to Wednesday till 5pm, which is quite stupid. I can understand if they choose not to provide student prices for weekends but how about Thursday and Friday? Students are not considered students anymore?

Ok I'm a student so I'm ranting about that. Now, for non-students and those who don't care about student prices, I have to say that this cinema is a top-quality one! The chairs are super comfortable and heavily cushioned in red (my favorite color!) and the screen is super clear with extremely good stereo surround systems to boot. You will definitely enjoy your movie experience when you are there, no matter what the genre is! The cinema always smells clean (I can't describe the smell of 'clean' very well...but take it that it is pleasant) and the floor is free from litter. I have to say that the prices of the food at the candy bar are quite overpriced so I usually sneak a little snack in. Shh!

Just so you know, DBS and some other cardholders can get tickets at a rate different from the normal ones. Can't get the digits off my head now but I always pay via DBS to save myself a few bucks! Tickets are available for booking online as well, but that would be an additional $1 added on top of the ticket prices. Good thing is, if you book online, you would not have to join the common queue and you also get to choose your desired seats online. These advantages alone are really worth the $1 so I would recommend everyone to book their tickets online if the cinema that you are heading to is a popular one and if you are afraid of getting seats so forward that your neck becomes like a giraffe's at the end of the show.

The Golden Village at Yishun has very recently just undergone a renovation, and there is a definite stark contrast in the quality of the whole cinema today! The seats used to be old and musky, but now it is definitely as good as new. Ever since the place has been refurbished, I've been visiting the place pretty often since it is very convenient and open till late.

Golden Village offers late-night movies - and the fact that it is so near home is a definite plus point. I no longer have to cab from after a midnight movie at AMK Hub, which is the next nearest cinema which offers movies after 12mn. The latest show available at GV Yishun is around 12.30am. If you are looking for a movie later than that, you'd have to try the ones in town which will run movies as late as 2am and beyond!

Purchasing tickets from GV.com.sg is simple as ABC as well! If you are a DBS Visa card holder, you'll be entitled to a discount if you book online. I always prefer to purchase tickets online to beat the long queues as I am often running late and have experienced disappointment far too many times, missing the timeslot I wanted because I was late. With the online booking system, I no longer have to go early to buy the tickets! Also, DBS always have promotions at GV. Purchasing online allows me to buy a large popcorn combo at a cheaper rate as well!

The best thing about catching a movie at GV is their nachos. I absolutely love their nacho cheese dip. I am not a huge fan of cheesy stuff as the cheesiness often gets overpowering after a bit, but I really cannot say the same for the cheese dip at GV. Unlike the dip offered at Cathay, the cheese dip at GV is extremely thick and cheesy, but yet never overwhelming. I always dip till the very last drip.

All in all, GV has definitely caught up with its huge rival, the Cathay Cineplex, since its upgrade. While I used to be an avid fan of Cathay for their large spacious seats and delicious popcorn, I have found a new movie place worthy to rival Cathay.

Named one of the most popular movie theaters in Singapore,Golden Village or what we always short term it as 'GV' has always been one of the top theaters island wide.

I have been patronizing 'GV' for many years, the service given by the crews is not really consistent depending on the crowd.
The ticket pricing depends on whether it is on weekday or weekend that we are watching the movie. Normally it ranges from $6.50 (student price) to $11.50 (ticket price on weekend or public holiday).

Now,everyone can be GV member and enjoy special privileges such as access to review the movies and special discounts and promotions only for members.

GV' candy bar offers a wide variety of snacks and beverages for the patrons. You will be able to see a long queue at the counters especially during the release of blockbuster movies.

For those who loves first class service and comfort, you can opt to watch at GV Gold Class which is only located at Vivocity. The ticket costs $28 per person but you would definitely enjoy this movie theatre. Definitely a must place to visit for movie lovers.

Blame me for being a typical Singaporean as I 'brag' about how great these limited edition stuff are, but as I type this review, an 'Avengers' cup is sitting right next to me on my desk. In my opinion, all the theatres in Singapore are up to my standards. GV, however, has excelled in making their patrons come back again and again. I'm not sure what attracts me so much to GV, although I'm pretty sure it's the comfort it gives me.

They offer limited edition stuff too, although you have to buy it. I got myself an 'Avengers' popcorn set, where I got a large popcorn (I presume) and a cup of sprite. The drink was given to me in that limited edition cup itself, and I didn't like it. I had to take the trouble of washing it before I could take it home. I might sound like a sissy, but washing a cup when you have to carry so many things with you is uncool (they also gave me a hulk figurine for the cup and a cardboard thingy (not sure what it is for, though).

I'm sure that if they are able to offer such great items, they would also be able to give you a plastic bag or something similar. GV has to understand that not everyone brings a bag with them!

Well, GV has always been my favorite hang-out place since I am a huge movie fan. As a student I am more than willing to spend time at GV to enjoy the discount while it lasts. I will skip the audio and visual critic since I don’t specialize in these areas. My only concern is the hygiene of the cinemas.

Unfortunately for my case, since I love to watch movies in the wee-hour I ended up seeing things that I shouldn’t. I see lot of stains on those red chairs as GV always have their lights on in the early morning. It just made the whole movie watching experience unpleasant. However I managed to psych myself to believe that the chairs that I am sitting in are clean and continued to sit through movies after movies.

Cinema worth going

GV has long been my primary cinema to go to for movies since I live close one. The place always looks good and their snacks and popcorn are good too. Buying tickets is very easy, if you go there personally there are a few lines for online booking, visa line and the normal queue line. I have not tried booking online but my friends had and it was quite easy and hassle free. Checking for movie timing and slots are easy as well and I felt that the updating of seats were quite prompt.

Other perks like being a member can save $1 on combo, birthday treats and more so being a member is awesome since it is free. I also like the perks of having bank cards as they offer cheaper prices with the use of certain bank cards like DBS/POSB, which I find myself using all the time and I can go to the visa queue line as well for buying tickets quickly.

I would recommend GV for friends, family and couples. The seats, screen and sound system is great and the seat are actually quite comfy for me.
