Bookworms can relate – nothing can replace getting lost in a dystopian book, or that rewarding feeling when you’ve learnt a new word from reading a novel. If you have kiddos at home who feel the same, then a day trip to Yishun Superhero Library might be worth planning.
All furniture at the library was either donated or upcycled.

Set at the void deck of Block 436 at Yishun Avenue 11, this community library is easy to spot – just look out for the wooden shelves and tables that hold a slew of books. To date, they’ve amassed around 1,000 books thanks to donations from the public.

This 24-hour library has a wide genre of reading for children of all ages to browse. Past selections have included the likes of well-known series including Captain Underpants, Geronimo Stilton, and Barbie.

That’s not to say that all the books are in English – there are also Mandarin ones so your child won’t grow up as jiak kantang. Older kids can look through the comics selection too, and little tots can take a peek at the picture books. Students can also prep for upcoming exams with the various textbooks and 10 year series for PSLE and O Levels available.

As the saying goes, “Sharing is caring”. The library sports a “take one, read one, return one” sign to encourage participants to donate their own pre-loved books. Take this opportunity to clear your shelves, and let other readers experience your books. Those who wish to drop off their donations can message the team via their Facebook page at least 2 days in advance.
Families with budding lil’ readers can plan a trip over and browse through the selection of books available. Or, spread the love and donate the old books that have been collecting dust on your shelf.
