10 Products That Make Watsons Your Favourite Personal Care Store

About Watsons

Watsons’ iconic Green-White-Red storefront is a sight I remember since young. As a student, I would see Watsons when I hung out at Takashimaya after school. Today, I see Watsons as I make my way home daily.

Since its inception in Singapore in 1988, Watsons has been one of most popular personal care brands in Singapore for its wide variety of products, ranging from beauty accessories to toiletries and health supplements. In addition to the sheer variety of products, Watsons has, in recent years, upped its healthcare platform with its 38 strategically located in-store pharmacies, offering a wider range of services including smoking cessation and health screening packages.

Not too long ago, my friend suggested signing up for the Watsons Loyalty Card. Despite having always been a skeptic towards rewards programmes, I was slightly swayed by some of her reasons, one of which was the fact that there are more 110 Watsons outlets for me to amass my points at.

With Watsons clinching the top award in the Loyalty Cards category under the 2014 Influential Brands study, I scouted several outlets to suss out the top 10 most surprising things Watsons sold. You’ll be surprised to see what you can find at Watsons!

1. A counter of Hello Kitty products

Heads up Hello Kitty fans, here’s another place for you to get your Hello Kitty fix. Watsons stocks a slew of Hello Kitty products ranging from cold packs and toothbrushes to nail buffers and plasters, there’re even N95 masks in these super-kawaii motifs. Now, that’s one more reason for me to head to Watsons during the hazy season.

2. A counter of Miffy products

If Hello Kitty isn’t your preferred cartoon icon, the adorable Dutch bunny, Miffy, makes a good alternative. Apart from your usual product lines of tissues, wet wipes and cotton buds, Watsons carries other Miffy-themed products such as lint-rollers, weighing scales and bedroom slippers.

3. Opera Eye Putti Liquid Tape

Eyelid stickers used to be a godsend for girls who wanted double eyelids, until things got a little tricky with the ends of these stickers sticking out of your eyelids. For a slightly more natural alternative, try the liquid tape or eyelid glue. Just apply it on your eyelid, wait for it to dry, and crease your lids the way you want to.

Price: $17.00

4. Orita Tealight Candles

If you’ve been using these guys solely as decorations, you’re missing out. In fact, tealight candles are named this way because they were meant to heat tea up. Put one in a tea warmer to keep your tea warm as you casually sip your cuppa. Alternatively, you can use them to indulge in a decadent serving of cheese or chocolate fondue.

More tealight candles, anyone?

In this day and age, most of us are pressed for time, no matter which day of the week it is. If you’re so busy you don’t even have time for shampoo, this is for you. Simply apply it on your hair and let it work its magic. It’s said to be able to absorb excess oil and add volume to flat, lacklustre hair.

If you’ve seen the pictures of celebrities without their eyebrows, you’ll realise how eyebrows can make or break a face. And that’s why it’s so important to take care of them. The K Palette eyebrow mascara has a unique showerhead-shaped brush that promises to coat each eyebrow strands evenly, at the same time helping to tame wiry eyebrows. Goodbye wonky brows, hello good-looking!

8. DHC Acne Care UV Protection Milk

Given Singapore’s harsh weather, it should be illegal to head outdoors without UV protection. If so, I would be a criminal because I loathe the sticky feeling I get from applying sunscreen.

Thankfully, DNC’s Acnecare UV Protection Milk is extremely lightweight and doesn’t feel sticky on the skin. It also helps prevent acnes. And shine. And large pores.

Price: $31

9. Orita Disposable Poncho

The next time it pours and you’re stranded somewhere without an umbrella, keep your eyes peeled for a Watsons store nearby. Disposable ponchos are available in all their outlets as a temporary shelter to tide you over that street or two. They’re available in kids’ sizes too, which comes in handy when you have a younger sibling in tow.

10. Watsons Gummy Bears

Sweets are my weak spots – I can never resist a good bag of gummies. Much to my delight, Watsons has recently launched their very own brand of gummies which is free of artificial colourings. Now I can scoop all of them up at one go while shopping for my beauty products.
