Cafes in Johor Bahru are aplenty, from mahjong-themed to Korean-inspired ones. If you’ve exhausted your current list, here’s another place you can visit – The Secret Forest.
Located in Taman Desa Tebrau near Toppen Shopping Centre, this nature-themed cafe offers a much-needed escape from hectic city life. Here’s what you can expect:
The current exchange rate is S$1 =~RM3.30 as of 29th November 2024.
The Secret Forest is located in Taman Desa Tebrau, but it is not that accessible by public transport due to its secluded location. The best way to get there is by car. While there aren’t any allocated parking spaces, there are some lots right in front of the cafe. Those coming during peak dinner timings should take note that parking spaces are limited.
We recommend taking a Grab over from the Woodlands customs. It’s a 20-minute car ride, and you can select your drop-off destination as The Secret Forest Taman Desa Tebrau. Getting a Grab back to the customs is relatively easy as there are drivers readily available around the area.
If you’re visiting the cafe on a clear and cooling day, go for the outdoor seating option. Foldable tables and chairs have been prepared, or you can sit your booty down on the wooden benches too.
You’ll notice that the entire outdoor section is covered with pebbles and mini gravel, adding to the camping vibes. Fairy lights are strung around the alfresco area, so don’t worry about unknowingly biting into a fallen leaf – the place is well-lit for photographing your many Instagram posts. Our tip: come during the sunset hour to get the best backdrop for your pictures.
There are live band performances every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday too. So those who want a clear view of the show should get a seat outside.
Of course, those who prefer to dine in the comfort of air-conditioning can get a table indoors. You won’t miss out on the gorgeous view of the sunset as the cafe has floor-to-ceiling windows.
The Secret Forest serves a variety of Western grub, such as the Smoked Duck Aglio Olio (RM18.90) for those looking for a hearty meal. Wash down your meal with a cup of Caramel Latte (RM17) for a caffeine kick, or try the Pinterest-worthy Matcha Strawberry Milk (RM16) – the latter is great if you have a sweet tooth.
If you’re just there for desserts, consider the Chocolate Burnt Cheesecake (RM15.90). This sweet treat comes highly rated by customers, thanks to its creamy texture and caramelised exterior.
You’re probably looking for new things to do this weekend. We won’t be a dictator and tell you what to do, but we’ll gently suggest visiting The Secret Garden Cafe if you’re heading to Malaysia. Don’t forget to grab your camera – and passport – before travelling over.
