If you’re already sick and tired of hearing the same old East vs West debate, the West might just have another point in its favour. And no, we’re not talking about which side has better food.
Westies now have a new reason to stay in their neighbourhood, with The Bricks, a new multi-sports facility that officially opened in Brickland-Tengah this month. It is located along the border of Choa Chu Kang and Singapore’s newest town, Tengah.
Construction of The Bricks is under SportSG’s Sport-in-Precinct initiative, which is rolling out 24 facilities across Singapore to make staying active more convenient. Think free-to-play sports and fitness facilities closer to home, so you can stay active without travelling far.

Spanning 1,200sqm, The Bricks offers a range of sports facilities for visitors to enjoy. These include a sheltered basketball court with spectator seating, allowing players to shoot hoops rain or shine. There are also fitness areas, a playground, and a multi-purpose court for activities such as badminton and pickleball.

There is also a cycling park in the vicinity, which is home to Singapore’s only dedicated BMX track. It will serve as a training ground for aspiring athletes, while also supporting the growth of the local bicycle motocross scene.

The 360m-long BMX racetrack is built to international standards, featuring a 5m start hill, jumps, banked turns, obstacles, and other elements designed for high-performance riding.
The facility could also play a role on the international stage, with Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow expressing hope that the BMX cycling event at the 2029 SEA Games will be held here. Singapore will host the Games that year, giving residents the chance to cheer on our local athletes.

In contrast, the pump track, the size of 2 basketball courts, offers a more beginner-friendly option. It features a looping circuit of rollers, banked turns, and other contours that can be ridden without pedalling. Instead, riders generate momentum by pumping their bodies up and down with the track, though it can take some practice to get the hang of it.

While both tracks will eventually be open to the public, you can’t simply rock up with a rental bike and slippers, as riders must meet several requirements before hitting the tracks.
For the BMX track, riders booking an individual-use slot must either complete a competency assessment or have prior experience racing BMX overseas. They must also hold a valid UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) licence and personal accident and liability insurance.
Riders are required to wear a full-face helmet, long-sleeved top, long pants, full-fingered gloves, and covered shoes with socks. Only certain bikes are allowed on the track, and entry is restricted to users with individual bookings.

As of now, however, the BMX track is only available for national squad training and accredited training partners, with individual bookings expected to be made available sometime in October 2026.
For those looking to try the facilities sooner, the pump track is already open to the public. It operates from Wednesday to Sunday from 3pm to 6pm, and from 8am to 12pm on Saturdays and Sundays. No bookings are required, but a compulsory waiver form must be completed before use, and helmets are recommended at all times.
As part of Choa Chu Kang’s 5-year multi-revitalisation plan, residents can look forward to the upcoming Brickland-Tengah Community Club, set to open beside The Bricks. It will serve as a central space for residents to take part in various activities and programmes.

Getting to The Bricks is easier than you might think. It’s located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7, opposite Block 810 in the Brickland-Tengah division.
The closest station to the facility is Keat Hong LRT Station, located about a 9-minute walk away. Alternatively, you can also take Bus 991 from Opp Bukit Gombak MRT Station and alight at Block 816B after 10 stops.
If you’re taking the Downtown Line, alight at Bukit Panjang MRT Station and hop on Bus 983 from Aft Bukit Panjang MRT Station for 5 stops before alighting at Block 810 CP.
Whether you’re a resident in the area or coming from elsewhere, The Bricks offers something a little different from other sports facilities around the island. If you’re not much of a thrill-seeker when it comes to the bike tracks, you can still enjoy the other amenities there, making it a worthwhile addition to your weekend plans.
