When it comes to receiving new amenities, North-Easties have it good. Just have a look at their roster of malls on the purple line – The Woodleigh Mall, Sengkang Grand Mall, Punggol Coast Mall – the list goes on, but you get the point. Moreover, it seems like the existing facilities in their vicinity are also slated for some TLC; case in point, the freshly revamped Sengkang Sports Centre.
Originally opened in 2008 as a bustling hub for the nearby residents to partake in sports such as swimming and badminton, it has recently undergone some renovations and is officially up and running as we speak. Here’s all you need to know about its new features.
Although it’s indeed located in Sengkang, Sengkang Sports Centre is actually quite a ways from Sengkang MRT station. Instead, you’ll want to hop on the LRT at Sengkang MRT station and alight at Farmway LRT station, which is just 2 stops away. Afterwards, the sports centre is a quick 5-min walk from the station.
Alternatively, you can opt to walk from Sengkang MRT station to Sengkang Sports Centre, which entails a 1.2km walk which takes about 15 minutes. Taking the bus is also another option to get there. Simply take bus no. 110 from Buangkok bus interchange and alight at the Block 362D bus stop (stop ID: 67761) to arrive at the sports centre’s doorstep.
Should you be driving or riding in, there’s also parking at Sengkang Sports Centre. The rate for motorcycle parking is $0.65/session, and rates for cars start from $0.60/30 minutes.
Probably the addition that’ll excite the little ones the most are the 5 new water slides located near the sports centre’s existing water playground, and each of them offer a different experience.
For instance, Rainbow Dash is a 4-lane slide where riders can race one another to see who splashes down first, while the longest out of the bunch, the 79.1m-long Cotton Candy Bowl slide is a more mellow affair for younger children. Do note that each of the 5 slides have their own height requirements, so kids will have to be at least 1.2m tall to ride some of them safely.
But if your tot is not the thrill-seeking type, head right to the nearby water playground. It hasn’t received any heart-thumping updates but it’s still an option for tots who aren’t quite the thrill-seeking type. It has many water spouts that pitter-patter from above, smaller slides, and a bucket that rains down water periodically.

Similarly, the swimming pool at Sengkang Swimming Complex within Sengkang Sports Centre remains mostly unchanged. It’s still a well-maintained pool to clock in laps at; perfect for the kids to take their swimming lessons, or to swim recreationally yourself to keep fit.
You can purchase a swim pass to gain entry to Sengkang Sports Centre’s new water slides, water playground, and swimming pool via the ActiveSg website. Single-day swim passes cost $0.50/child or senior and $1/adult for access to just the swimming pool, and $0.80/child or senior and $1.50/adult for access to the entire swimming complex.
When you walk in for your swim sessions, you’ll also notice that Sengkang Sports Centre’s foyer has also been given a facelift. Apart from the new look, the current foyer also features huge overhead fans to keep it cool for smaller-scale fitness activities like Zumba classes and K-pop dance programmes.
In the same vein, the new Active Groove will also serve as one of these spaces to play host to such activities; it even sports ambient lighting for which comes in handy when your dance sessions stretch well into the night.
For those residing elsewhere other than Sengkang, don’t worry. Other sports centres around Singapore – namely Woodlands, Jurong East, and Clementi Sports Centres – will also undergo upgrade works in the near future. But for now, those staying in the North-East will have us looking on, green with envy, as they whiz down their swanky new slides.
