Safari Zoo Run 2019 – This 12km Race Through Singapore Zoo & Night Safari Is Unlike Any City Marathon

Family-friendly races at Safari Zoo Run 2019

I love the Zoo. If anything, it helps me relive memories of seeing some of my favourite animals like elephants and lions during primary school excursions, which is a great feeling as I slowly creep towards the wrong side of the 20s.

If you’re a fellow adult and are itching to head back to Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, mark your calendars for the Safari Zoo Run 2019 happening on 24th February. Unlike the typical marathon set amidst the CBD area, look forward to sweating it out amidst adorable critters – and all for a good cause to boot.

Explore River Safari for the first time

On top of racing through Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, this year’s runners will be able to explore the lush River Safari – for the first time in the run’s 11 year history. Whether it’s popping by the Amazon Flooded Forest to meet Canola the manatee or getting a glimpse of the park’s river-dwellers, there’ll be plenty to keep you occupied for sure.

You won’t be going through all that physical activity for nothing either. This year, Wildlife Reserve Singapore’s 4 park icons will each champion a conservation cause. You can choose the team you’d like to run for during registration!

  • Team Ah Meng and Team Chawang: Run for the ForestDeforestation might have been a word thrown around during Geog class back in school, but it’s 2019 and the concern is more real than ever. Join Ah Meng the Orangutan and Chawang the Elephant to raise awareness to protect the homes of their forest-dwelling mates!
  • Team Canola: Run for Clean WaterImagine your home being infested with trash. It isn’t a good look, and sadly is something many river-dwelling animals like manatees have become increasingly subjected to. Our rivers, wetlands, and oceans are full of plastic waste – in fact, there could be a higher amount of plastic than fish by weight in 2050. This cause aims to reduce single-use plastics, so #teammetalstraws anyone?
  • Team Sunny: Run for Clean AirIf you already feel the pinch of breathing in polluted air from just a few days of haze, trust that our feathery friends have it worse. To help shed some light on climate change and the effects of air pollution, race with Team Sunny and do your part.

Participants are also encouraged to go green for the run – so make sure to bring your own water bottles!

Take part in family-friendly race categories

Singapore Zoo is a great family spot, and I’ve got a Polaroid snap of my parents holding me and an orangutan with a big smile on our faces to prove it. With the spirit of bonding in mind, this year’s run will be having 2 new race categories that are perfect for the entire family.

Get your little ones to join you in the Safari Zoo Duo Dash and Safari Zoo Junior Dash, where adults can team up with their kids for a competitive 2km race. But those that are looking forward to flexing their fitspo skills can head straight for the Safari Zoo Challenge – a competitive 12km stretch to test your endurance levels.

But if running ain’t your cuppa tea, opt for the Safari Zoo Walk. This leisurely 4km stroll will let you join in the fun and appreciate the surrounding flora and fauna along the way. Plus, this is great for families with tots in strollers.
