When we think of high-performance workstations or an editing rig, the image we tend to have in our head is usually a beefy and expensive PC custom-built for raw performance. This may be accurate for previous gen systems, but we’re now able to enjoy the same perks on-the-go thanks to the MSI Prestige 13 Evo laptop, a portable workstation that packs a punch.
From a high speed SSD to Full HD display that’s true to colour, here’s what you need to know about MSI’s snazzy new laptop.
The screen can also be opened fully should you want to use your laptop in a flat configuration.
It’s no surprise that it takes a capable machine to withstand both intensive creative work, and store all your jumbo digital files without the need for an external drive. These days, with files such as high-resolution photos and 4K videos taking up up to 7GB of space per minute, it’s become a necessity rather than a privilege to have storage capabilities that are large and fast.
Luckily for us, the MSI Prestige 13 Evo system comes kitted out with a PCIe Gen 4 Solid State Drive (SSD) which ensures that storage speed and reliability are at an all-time high. That’s not all we have to shout about, however, because this system also runs on a 13th Gen Intel Core i7 processor that’s sure to withstand intensive processes such as video rendering.
File transfers are also a zippy experience, reaching speeds of up to 40Gbps by way of the 2 Thunderbolt 4 connectors located on the left edge of the machine.
The inclusion of Thunderbolt 4 ports also enables you to connect up to 3 additional displays should you choose to use your laptop with external monitors. Thereafter, you can enable the laptop’s nifty Matrix Display function for an immersive multi-monitor experience complete with Surround View Mode.
With its 6GHz network capabilities – also known as Wi-Fi 6E – slow internet connections will be a thing of the past. Your wireless internet is set to get a hefty upgrade in the latency department, enhancing both work and play.
And because Wi-Fi 6E is also known to be way more stable as compared to its previous counterparts, you can finally escape the hair-pulling frustration of randomly disconnecting from your internet connection.
Upgrades and beefed up specs are fine and dandy, but does it weigh as much as a tank? Despite all the features mentioned above, MSI managed to keep this beast of a system weighing just 990g – that’s lighter than the weight of a filled 1.5l water bottle.
Not only is it lightweight, it’s thin too – measuring 16.9mm. The entire laptop was able to fit into my daily tote with ease. To be honest, I didn’t even notice the added weight I was carrying around and forgot about it soon after.
With a 13.3in 1920×1200 display that takes up close to 90% in screen ratio, the Prestige 13 Evo isn’t just about work. Watching Full HD content on this laptop is greatly enjoyable thanks to Intel’s Iris Xe Graphics. It’s a creative-centric GPU, so you can expect accurate colour grading in both editing and when you’re kicking back after work with your favourite movies.
While having a big screen to work on can be nice, it often hinders the portability factor. With this laptop, you now have a powerful workstation in a small and compact form that’s deployable anywhere. And with the heavy duty performance specs, you can wave goodbye to rage quits, disconnected Zoom calls, and waiting what seems like forever for your XXL files to load.
The MSI Prestige 13 Evo laptop is retailing at major tech outlets such as Harvey Norman, COURTS, and Best Denki, as well as stores like CR Group, GamePro, Dynacore, and Venture IT at the price of $2,199. MSI also provides a 2-year warranty in case of any technical or physical issues with your system – and no, a drop test is not a physical issue.
