It’s one of the greatest love stories of all time, and next Valentine’s Day, AKA V’Day 2027, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is coming to Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands.
Running from 16th February to 4th April 2027, the Broadway and West End hit, based on the 2001 movie, is premiering in Southeast Asia as part of its first-ever world tour.
For those of you who are too young for the year 2001, that’s when Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film had the world enraptured with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman’s starcrossed protagonists – a young American writer, Christian, and the star performer of 19th-century Paris’ Moulin Rouge cabaret, Satine.

Not to spoil it for you, but as all tragic love stories go, there are complications, obstacles, wealth and class divides, heartbreak, and eventual tragedy. Trust us – you’ll have to watch it for yourself.

Since it first premiered at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2018, the musical has performed to more than 12 million audience members worldwide. It’s not left Broadway since 2019; and the West End run has been ongoing since 2021.

Rather than simply being a live-action version of the film, the musical has been described as a “mash-up musical”, featuring more than 70 iconic songs spanning over 160 years of music, from the classics to modern hits by names such as Lady Gaga and Adele.

FYI, the film received 133 nominations and won 89 awards; the musical has won more than 20 awards across its various productions, including 10 Tonys – the most-awarded Broadway production of 2020.
