Many of us dedicate IG photos to our best friends, since they’re always there for us during our ups and downs. But think about it, there’s someone other than our #BFFs who’ve had our backs throughout our lives – our mums.
This Mother’s Day, save some space on your Instagram feed to dedicate a chunk of love to your mum.
Instead of the ol’ dinner dates or spa sessions, we decided to recreate our #BFF photos with our own mothers, reflect on how much they mean to us – and decked them out in jewellery as a gesture of appreciation.
Of the original BFF picture, Charmaine recalled: “The picture was taken during a sleepover during the Christmas season, and we were trying to get the picture to evoke the warmth and comfort of friendship.”
Similarly, that warmth is something she enjoys in the relationship with her mum. “She is like a 3-in-1, not only a mother, but also a sister and friend,” says Charmaine. “She’s someone I can talk to and get advice from, enjoys the same things, and comfortably joke with.”
Natalie and her mum Emily share everything. “We shop together, have the same likes and dislikes and most importantly, she lets me wear her clothes,” she laughs.
And so, doing this shoot with her mum made her feel like she was an even closer friend. “I usually have impromptu photo shoots with my friends – like you know shamelessly taking pictures together. So this really makes us feel like BFFs!”
“I took this photo with my friend after lunch at the museum,” Kimberly recalls. And so, it was especially fun to recreate this with her mum in similar outfits and poses. “She was just laughing SO much – it was cool to have a photo taken of us instead of the usual selfies.”
On a more serious note, Kimberly sees her mum as a safe haven. “I’m so grateful to have someone to turn to whenever I need help. She keeps me in check but always encourages me and sees the best in me – especially when I can’t.”
For Pepita, the original photo was for a “atas” photoshoot, as she and her friends were into that kind of thing.
“I never thought I would actually go out on photoshoots with mum like ever, let alone “model” together!” she exclaims, sharing that it was nice that her mother could get a glimpse of the work she does.
It was also wonderful that it made her slow down and appreciate her communication with mum, “I’m not one to open up easily but with my mom I know I can, because she accepts me for who I am and is not one to judge me at all.”
Nicole’s BFF photo was taken candidly by her other best friend. “We were studying at KFC before an exam and my friend’s ears were inflamed so I massaged it with some tiger balm,” she explained. “Recreating it with my mum was hilarious because we had to fake laugh to capture the moment and it led to us actually laughing.”
As for her relationship with mum, Nicole is touched by the small gestures, “I love beef. My mum doesn’t. Yet, she started cooking it for me recently and made the steak and beef pho taste 10000/10. And when I come home to a home-cooked meal by her, I feel so loved.”
The original post was taken at TSL’s Christmas Party, and Gwen was excited that her mum could take time out of her schedule to recreate this and capture some nice pics together. “We love cute things like this heart. Also, having some quality time to hang out was nice!”
To Gwen, her mum is a strong and self-sacrificing person, having survived stage 4 cancer and being a generous mother who spends money on her kids rather than herself. “She really inspires me to be a better person in this world just by her example of love.”
Instead of the usual flower bouquets, treat your mum to a gift that doesn’t wither with time.
Consider Swarovski’s Mother’s Day Latisha collection, which features four-leaf clovers paired with pearls across their rose gold or rhodium-plated designs.
This year, gift your mum these pieces and put on a smile on her face. Happy Mother’s Day!
