May 2015’s New Cafés & Restaurants

With the blossoming of several Pat Bingsu cafés, we observe the rise of yet another food trend. And so May’s list of new cafés and restaurants features several K-cafés found all over Singapore, so you can satisfy your K-ravings anytime, anywhere.

As for our list of new restaurants, we have a hodgepodge of different cuisines from Nyonya to Portuguese, everything has been curated.

– Cafés –

1. Red Baron

Source

Located in a tranquil setting far from the city’s bustle, Red Baron is a newly opened bakery-café that you can add to your list of cafés to while your afternoon away at. Be it dessert or tea-break, Red Baron has a decadent selection of sweet treats perfect for any occasion.

Address: Gillman Barracks, 45 Malan Road, Singapore
Telephone: 96379201 | Open 10am – 5pm Tue to Sun.

2. Banana Tree Singapore

Source

Originating from Seoul, the creative way this café presents its desserts is their greatest selling point. Made to the likeness of potted plants and christened with punny names (like Pot Bingsu – because it’s in a pot), Banana Tree’s creations are bound to delight and brighten up your Instagram feed.

Address: 26 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089133
Telephone: 6221 5020 | Open 9am – 7pm Tues to Fri; 10am – 8pm

3. Bing Go Jung Korean Dessert House

Source

Located conveniently next to its sister restaurant, Ju Shin Jung Korean BBQ, this Korean dessert café is known for its Pat Bingsu – the Korean equivalent of our Ice Kachang. The Green Tea Bingsu is sprinkled with cornflakes for extra crunch, and is a favourite amongst patrons.

Address: 102 Guillemard Road #01-01, Singapore 399719
Telephone: 6440 5509 | Open 12pm – 1pm daily.

4. O’ma Spoon

Source

Yet another establishment to jump onto the Korean dessert café bandwagon, O’ma Spoon offers the K-café standard fare of Bingsu and Toast, alongside some cakes and beverages. Don’t write them off just yet – the bingsu here is as good as any the other Korean dessert cafés here, and to top it off, they’re not afraid to mix it up with flavours like Chocolate Brownie & Banana.

Address: #01-01/2/3 Marina Square Shopping Centre, 6 Raffles Boulevard, Singapore 039594
Telephone: 6333 0995 | Open 10am – 10pm daily.

5. Noodle Café

Source

This café is known for offering authentic Thai-style Boat noodles. It’s simple fare, but the bowls of thin Kway Tiao simmering in a flavourful broth they dole out by the dozens are the perfect cure for a cold, rainy day.

Address: #B1-08 Golden Mile Complex, Singapore Singapore 199588
Telephone: 8666 6675 | Open 11.30am – 9pm daily.

6. East Manhattan Bakery Café

Source

As the café’s name suggests, East Manhattan brings a taste of New York to Singapore – in the form of breads, cakes and brunch items. There are quite a few gluten free options here, so why not come by whenever you’re looking for a healthier dining-out experience?

Address: 19 Lorong Kilat #01-03, Singapore 598120
Telephone: 9639 4179 | Open 10am – 9pm Tues to Thur; 10am – 10pm Fri; 9am – 10pm Sat; 9am – 7pm Sun.

7. Pancake House of Tokio

Source

Rather underrated despite its central location, the Pancake House of Tokio offers a variety of brunch and dessert items including pancakes, waffles and paninis. Also, expect no exorbitant prices here. Show them the love they deserve this May!

Address: Cathay Cineleisure Orchard #01-03, 8 Grange Road, Singapore 239695
Telephone: 6334 7698 | Open 11.30am – 9.30pm Mon to Sun.

8. The Cold Pantry

Source

Sunday Folks may have started the soft serve-on waffles trend, but The Cold Pantry revolutionizes it with their handmade toppings, and waffles infused with unique flavours. Their Chocolate Root Beer Waffles are a definite must-try!

Address: 131 Rangoon Road, Singapore 218409
Telephone: 9179 7266 | Open 12pm – 11pm Mon to Thur, Fri to Sun.

9. Grin Affair

Source

Best known for their cake-in-a-jar concept, Grin Affair’s new Everton Park outlet adds a variety of waffles to their repertoire. In an already over-saturated market, the Grin Affair differentiates themselves from existent waffle cafés with novel (and extremely photogenic) creations like the meringue-based waffle pictured above.

Address: 3 Everton Park, #01-77A, Singapore 080003
Telephone: 8222 2678 | Open 12pm – 11pm Mon to Sun; 1.30pm – 6pm PH.

10. Yogart

Source

Make no mistake – Yogart is NOT a Llao Llao wannabe. The yogurt tastes nothing like the one at Llao Llao, and aside from froyo cups, they also sell artisanal and designer popsicles, and an interesting froyo-waffle combination.

Address: 175 Bencoolen Street, #01-56 Burlington Square, Singapore 189649
Telephone: 6238 0135 | Open 12pm – 9pm Mon to Sat; 12pm – 6pm Sun.

13. Lollapalooza

Source

We’ve all heard the familiar refrain of “wanting something new for a change” uttered oh so often when planning a lunch gathering, leaving us scrambling to pull up several Google searches for a restaurant with an inspiring new menu.

Such a problem ceases to exist at Lollapalooza, because they change their menu EVERY DAY. Lollapalooza may make our New Cafés & Restaurants list this May, but you can be assured that they’ll be offering you something new for months to come.

Address: 1A Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089109

14. Monochrome Fusion Bistro

Source

The restaurant’s interior consists of sharp contrasts between the only two colours on the design palette – black and white. However, with exciting options like Black Velvet Cake on their dessert menu, dining here will prove to be anything but a monochromatic experience.

Address: 291 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058836
Telephone: 6221 1798 | Open 11am – 10pm Mon to Thurs; 10am – 12am Fri, Sat, eve of pH and PH; 10am – 5pm Sun.

15. Neon Pigeon

Source

Yet another addition to Keong Saik Road, Neon Pigeon is the latest after-work watering hole to open along the ever-bustling stretch. Meshing Japanese culinary influences with a distinctly Western industrial chic setting, this edgy joint is quite the chill-out spot.
