This New Joo Chiat Art Exhibition Is Basically A Love Letter To Doing Nothing & Appreciating Slow Days

Lazy Days with Dog & Frog – Niall Breen x Heartware Store & Gallery

Singapore isn’t exactly famous for taking things slow. Between rushing for the MRT, squeezing in gym sessions after work, and somehow ending up with 37 unread messages by lunchtime, many of us are constantly chasing the next thing on our to-do list.

That’s why the new exhibition at Heartware Store & Gallery feels surprisingly shiok. Irish comic artist Niall Breen is bringing his beloved Dog & Frog universe to Singapore for his first-ever solo exhibition in Asia. Titled Lazy Days, the show runs from 29th May to 26th July 2026 and is all about appreciating life’s quieter moments, whether that’s lying on the floor for no reason, staring at clouds, or simply doing absolutely nothing for a while.

Honestly, sounds like a skill Singaporeans could use more of.

Who is Niall Breen?

Niall Breen is an Irish comic artist best known for Dog & Frog, an ongoing comic series he has been creating since 2018.

What is Dog & Frog about?

A comic series that finds joy in the small stuff

Since 2018, Breen has been drawing daily comics about the life and friendship of Dog and Frog. The premise is simple. Dog and Frog aren’t saving the world or going on grand adventures. They’re just living life together.

Through thousands of comics, Breen highlights the little moments that usually slip under the radar. A lazy afternoon. A quiet conversation. Sitting beside someone you care about without needing to say much at all.

His drawings have struck a chord with readers around the world because they’re surprisingly relatable. Instead of reminding people to do more, the comics gently suggest that maybe life is already happening in the small moments we’re rushing past.

Over the years, the series has been collected into several self-published books, including Spanish-language editions released with independent publisher Apa Apa Comics. Breen has also previously held a solo exhibition at the Treviso Comic Book Festival in Italy.

What to expect at Lazy Days

For his Singapore debut, Breen has put together a cosy collection of works centred around the idea of slowing down. The exhibition celebrates everyday moments that often go unnoticed, encouraging visitors to slow down and appreciate rest, friendship and simple pleasures.

Visitors can browse original artworks featuring Dog and Frog while soaking in the exhibition’s intentionally laid-back atmosphere. Rather than asking people to think harder or move faster, Lazy Days encourages visitors to pause for a moment and appreciate the beauty of everyday life.

The exhibition continues Heartware Store & Gallery’s signature style of creating approachable art experiences that feel more like hanging out in a creative friend’s home than walking through a traditional gallery. The space itself is tucked away on the third floor of a Joo Chiat shophouse and has become known for hosting playful, highly Instagrammable exhibitions by independent artists from around the world.

You might have visited some of their previous pop-ups like 555 MART, Ikuiku Love Hotel, and Hello Singapore!

Exclusive merchandise will also be available, including homeware and collectibles featuring Breen’s signature illustrations. Expect cosy lifestyle items including woven blankets ($158), prints ($36-$80), enamel pins ($13) featuring Dog and Frog.

There are also t-shirts ($48), hoodies ($84), and plenty of other collectibles like picnic mats and pillow cases.

Lazy Days with Dog & Frog is a reminder to slow down

Part of what makes Dog and Frog so lovable is how ordinary they are. They nap. They snack. They daydream. Sometimes they just exist. In a city where productivity often feels like a personality trait, Lazy Days offers something refreshingly different. It celebrates rest without guilt and reminds us that not every moment needs to be optimised.

For an hour or two, visitors can step into Dog and Frog’s world and embrace the fine art of doing absolutely nothing. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
