A Labubu Movie Featuring The Ugly-Cute Icon Is In The Works – Here’s Everything We Know So Far

Labubu movie

Wait… we all thought the Labubu hype was quietly fading into the abyss of yesterday’s trends. But plot twist: she’s not done with us yet. In a move no one really saw coming, POP MART has announced that its worldwide popular ugly-cute icon is getting her own movie.

Are you Team Yay or Team Nay? Either way, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming Labubu movie.

A POP MART & Sony collaboration

OK, we’ll admit – when a toy company announces a movie, expectations can be questionable. But POP MART clearly knows its limits, because it’s teaming up with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the Labubu film.

Sony is the Hollywood studio behind plenty of blockbuster hits, so at least we know the film is in pretty experienced hands. Maybe, just maybe, we might actually get a Labubu movie that’s worth sitting through from start to end.

Renowned director & screenwriter backing the film

The people behind the camera are kind of a big deal too.

Paul King – known for films like Paddington, Paddington 2, and Wonka – will be directing and producing the Labubu movie. If you’ve watched any of his films, you’ll know they have a whimsical, slightly offbeat charm, which honestly fits Labubu’s chaotic and cute vibe to a T.

He’ll also be co-writing the screenplay with Steven Levenson, an American playwright and screenwriter best known for Dear Evan Hansen.

The Labubu artist will be involved in the film

If you simply can’t imagine what a Labubu movie is going to look like, here’s some reassurance: the mastermind behind it all is part of the project. Lung Kasing, the artist who created Labubu, is coming on board as an executive producer for the film.

Will feature live-action & CGI

It’s also going to be a film that features a hybrid of live-action and CGI. What this probably means is real-world settings blended with animated Labubus running around causing chaos. We’ll have to see whether that ends up being cute or nightmare-worthy.

Are you looking forward to the Labubu movie?

For now, the project is still in its early stages, so key details like the budget, release date, and full cast are still under wraps. But it certainly looks like Labubu isn’t leaving our lives anytime soon – whether you like it or not.
