KIPMall JB – Newly Revamped With Thrift Shopping & Wet Market-Style Supermarket

KIPMall Tampoi in JB

We’re inching closer to the completion of the RTS Link between Singapore and JB which will make commuting across the Causeway that much easier. There are new JB malls to anticipate too, with Horizon Mall, near LEGOLAND Malaysia, slated for completion in less than 3 months. If you can’t wait that long, don’t worry, because KIPMall Tampoi has just reopened following a major revamp – and here’s what you can expect.

Where is KIPMall Tampoi located?

First up, for those who haven’t been to KIPMall, you’ll find it in Tampoi, a JB suburb where you’ll also find the B5 Johor Street Market. It’s also just 7 minutes away by car from Paradigm Mall.

If that didn’t put things in perspective for you, here are the stats: it’s a 15-20-minute drive from JB Checkpoint, or 17 stops by bus from JB Sentral, which takes approximately 36 minutes.

That’s buses J30, J31, J32, as well as J34 in the direction of Terminal Kulai, and you’ll have to get off at Kipmart Tampoi before walking 350m to the mall.

Thrifters, you’ll want to put KIPMall Tampoi on your list, because they house a Jalan Jalan Japan outlet that’s said to have more than 20 aisles of pre-loved goodies imported directly from Japan.

The thrift store also claims to have, at any one point in time, at least 200,000 items in its inventory, including clothes, shoes, handbags, and even baby gear, at prices ranging from RM1-RM50 (~S$0.32-S$16.17).

If this is your first time at Jalan Jalan Japan, you’ll be happy to know that they have fitting rooms in the store. Heads up, too, that according to reviews online, the store generally restocks on Mondays.

While the mall has always boasted a wet market-style street, this has been refreshed after the mall’s revamp. The experience is now cleaner and more comfortable after being modernised, with large heli-fans too.

Should you still prefer supermarkets, the mall also has an HT Supermart, where you can pick up home and daily essentials, as well as other groceries.

In between all the shopping, check out Jom Makan, the mall’s food court, where everyone in your group can have their own choice of meal.

Otherwise, the food street is packed with standalone stalls hawking snacks both sweet and savoury. There’s Crispy Hot Rolls, known for their crepes, pratha and tortilla rolls, and Perniagaan Asamanis, where you can pick up candies and dried fruit that’s sold by weight.

There are loads of new dining options here too, such as Marrybrown, beloved for their crispy fried chicken, plus Zus Coffee, with the Malaysia-exclusive Iced Banana Spanish Latte.
