If you’re a Singaporean who loves a quick JB shopping trip, you’ve probably visited Johor Bahru City Square (JBCS) more times than you can count – after all, it’s the mall nearest to the Causeway. But here’s some exciting news: JBCS is getting a major makeover, giving us even more reasons to hop across the border for some retail therapy.

Renovation works inside JBCS are already underway, and the exterior will be getting a modern facelift too. The mall is also expanding from 547,076sqft to 568,927sqft, which essentially means there’ll be more shops to browse and more room to roam.
For context, JBCS currently has 247 retailers, but once the revamp is complete, you can look forward to over 300 shops covering everything from fashion and wellness to tech and lifestyle.

And TBH, the current layout can be a little confusing, with bakeries rubbing shoulders with fashion stores on the same floor. The upgraded mall will have themed floors instead, making it easier to find what you’re looking for.
With any mall upgrade, there are always new spots to get excited about, and JBCS is no exception. One of the highlights is the 15,000sqft Kids Adventure Park for some family fun. Details are still under wraps, but we’re guessing it’ll be a huge indoor playground.
There’ll also be a 41,300sqft Health & Wellness Hub for those looking to shop and chill all in one go.
But it doesn’t stop at retail. Come Q2 2028, hotel apartments will be added above the mall, giving you more options if you want to stay overnight in JB instead of rushing back to SG.

The revamp is targeted for completion in Q4 2027, and don’t worry – the mall won’t be shutting down during the process. Upgrades will be done in phases, so you’re still welcome to pop by for your favourite Oriental Kopi run or a bit of shopping.
In case you missed it, the RTS Link is slated for completion by the end of 2026, so getting to JBCS to check out all the new shops and zones will be a breeze by then.
