With sparkly decorations adorning the streets, festive markets, and a mirthful spirit in the air, there’s no doubt that Christmas is the most magical time of the year. You’d probably already have flocked to the Orchard belt for photos at the annual light-up, but aside from all the hype in town, there’s also a little corner in the West that’s got snapshot-worthy backdrops.
This year, Jem is bringing even more enchantment to the yuletide season with their unicorn-themed Christmas decor. Even if you’re not a Westie, you’d want to make the trip down to experience the magical vibes these installations offer – especially if you’re a fan of folklore and all things fantastical.
The most eye-catching piece here is an impressive 11m tall tree flanked by unicorn sculptures at the open space right outside the mall. Even in the daytime, it looks like part of a Lord of the Rings set, with twining “branches” forming ethereal-looking arches.

Come night, and the entire scene gets illuminated, transforming to become twice as spellbinding. Interestingly, you’ll also see a shadow of two unicorns suddenly appear in the tree’s hollow – it’s details like these that give the exhibit an added touch of magic.
If unicorns are your spirit animal, you’ll be glad to know that there are even more of such decorations within the mall itself.
Our favourite indoor piece was the one at Level One (near Starker Q) – basically a smaller-scale version of the outdoor installation complete with artificial grass, but with a slightly different backdrop. You won’t have to wait till sunset for your bokeh shots here, because the lights are switched on even during the day!
Tip: use a fast lens or higher aperture and go close-up for the best effect!
Other whimsical fixtures include galaxy-patterned unicorns hanging from the ceiling, alongside iridescent globules. You’ll see these motifs repeated at spots surrounding the mall too.
