We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we gotta do what we gotta do when there’s a PSA to go out: Windows 10 is reaching end of support in October 2025, and if you’re still on a Windows 10 laptop, it might be time for an upgrade. Here are the why’s and how’s, answered:
Windows 11 is not a new operating system. It was actually released in October 2021, which might not be that big of a deal to most of us who don’t speak tech. But here’s why you should care: after 14th October 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security and software updates, technical support, or security fixes for Windows 10.
Consider this a crash course, but End of Support (EOS), scheduled for 14th October. EOS is the final stage when a product is made obsolete, when all support is discontinued. So yes – Windows 10 has reached EOS, which is pretty grim for everyone who’s still using it.

On the bright side, your Windows 10 laptop will still be able to function come 15th October.
The bad news: your PC will henceforth be vulnerable to security threats, including malware and viruses.
In more real-life-applicable terms, the implications include getting your accounts hacked into, software errors that impede your work and efficiency, and cyberattacks leading to potential breaches or loss of personal information.
Newer software and applications may be incompatible with Windows 10, which leads to inefficiencies in situations where you might need them for work. In time, updates of computer programmes that you use may not be able to be installed on your Windows 10 computer, resulting in decreased productivity.

If your laptop was purchased before 2021, you’re especially at risk, because it is likely that your computer is running on Windows 10, and doesn’t have the technical capacity to be upgraded to Windows 11. As such, it’s highly recommended that you look at upgrading your laptop.
Let your laptop upgrading journey take you to Harvey Norman, who’ve got a wide range of next gen AI laptops – across all the brands that you could think of, and for every kind of computer user – plus a whole bunch of deals to make it less painful. We’re talking about your wallet, and the process in general.
First up: they’ve got an exclusive trade-in bonus for in-store purchases of a Windows 11 PC. Then, there’s up to $500 off Intel Core Ultra PCs, which come with a free PC Mover license, and as much as $195 off Microsoft Surface devices. Cop a Microsoft Surface laptop, and you’ll even get a free gift that’s worth $299. All this, on top of other attractive deals.
Should your next laptop of choice be a Next Gen AI laptop, such as the Acer Aspire Go 14 AI PC ($896, SRP $1,249), you’re in for an AI-powered treat. Weighing in at just 1.5kg, this ultra sleek laptop is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Processor, so you get extra fast speeds that make gaming and video editing a breeze.
Another option to consider, especially for those who work on the go, is the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED ($2,349), another Intel Core Ultra PC that’s only 1.49cm thick. It’s got a 3K OLED touchscreen display and an integrated NPU AI engine – Neural Processing Unit, AKA an AI accelerator that’s specifically designed to handle AI tasks.
Next up is the LG Gram 16” ($1,795, SRP $2,599) that weighs even less than the 2 above. It’s by no means fragile, having undergone military-standard tests to withstand extreme temperatures, drops, vibrations and dust, among others. Plus, it’s packed with an AI-powered Intel Core Ultra Processor so there will never be any lag time even with multiple AI processes going on simultaneously.
It’s even got an anti-glare panel so your screen is always crisp and clear. Dolby Atmos and a high-capacity battery make this an all-rounder champ.
Apart from Intel Core Ultra, another processor that you might encounter in an AI-ready laptop is Snapdragon. Snapdragon laptops, such as the Lenovo Ideapad 5x 2-in-1 ($1,396, SRP $1,499), a Harvey Norman exclusive, are known for their long-lasting batteries.
Best suited for students, or professionals who need their laptops for basic functions on the go, this Copilot+ PC is a versatile, multi-mode laptop that can be flipped over into a tablet.
Last but not least, the Microsoft Surface Pro Copilot+ PC 12” (from $1,199) – the absolute lightest of the bunch at just 686g. It claims to have 16 hours of battery life, and comes with what’s said to be a turbocharged NPU that works at the speed of 45 trillion operations per second.
Your purchase of the Microsoft Surface Pro Copilot+ PC comes with Microsoft Office 365 Family, but you’ll have to purchase the keyboard and Surface Slim pen separately.
Do note that all PC prices listed in this article are for a limited time only. Terms and conditions apply.
