The dreaded day is drawing nearer than ever – when your friends will drag you to haunted houses and trails against your will. Halloween is just round the corner, and even though trick-or-treating and pumpkin carving aren’t exactly commonplace here, there’s plenty of fun to be had in dressing up for costume parties. It’s also a perfect excuse to jio your pals out for a drink! 

Since we’re all about everything fun (and spooky) this month, here are 15 spine-chilling happenings around the island to scare the living wits out of you this weekend! 

1. Halloween Horror Nights 2015

Universal Studios Singapore’s (USS) Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) is the de-facto annual event for Halloween here. This year’s HHN is very different from the previous years’, with 3 out of 4 haunted houses bearing a localised horror theme. Expect a frightening experience at haunted HDB flats, as well as dilapidated MRT carriages teeming with inhabitants of the netherworld.

2. Scary Scary Night 2015: Halloween at Bugis Street

Bugis Street will transform itself from a hustling and bustling locale by day into a dilapidated, macabre labyrinth by night this Halloween. Experience Bugis Street’s alleys when the shops are closed, and when other “customers” come to patronise. Level 2 will be transformed into 10 scare zones, and that’s not all – Asian ghosts will be dressed up to roam freely so watch out for them!

3. Changi Revisited: The Hendon Horrors

If you have a knack for solving mysteries, or just want to have an immersive and interactive experience this Halloween, check out Changi Revisited: The Hendon Horrors. It’s a great time to channel your inner Sherlock Holmes, as you interrogate suspects and solve the ominous mystery with clues. Changi Revisited is held at the infamous Old Changi Hospital and Changi Barracks, so try to not let your mind run wild when you hear someone calling out to you.

4. Go Away Halloween Trek

Keen to explore Singapore off the beaten track this Halloween? Go on a trek to one of Singapore’s most haunted places – Bukit Brown. The trek is a 3 to 4-hour night adventure which covers the entirety of one of Singapore’s oldest cemeteries. Go Away Halloween Trek costs only $20, and is probably the closest you’ll get to a real paranormal experience this Halloween.

5. ACM After Dark 2015

If the usual, westernised Halloween events are too boring for you, Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) has planned out an Asian-themed Halloween. Inspired by the Chinese mythology of the 10 courts of hell, this is practically Haw Par Villa coming to life. Looks like the seventh month just got an extension!

6. Last Halloween on Jiak Kim Street – The Witch Hunt with Hong & Lincey

This coming Halloween will be the last one that Zouk will be hosting at Jiak Kim Street, before its relocation to Clarke Quay 2016. Bask in the glory of its last Halloween and rave all night – you might just stand a chance to win a trip to Japan and Hong Kong for donning the ghastliest Halloween costume! It’s The White Rabbit’s annual Halloween bash and this time, the dress code is inspired by the biblical paradise Garden of Eden. The White Rabbit at Dempsey nestled amidst lush greenery, so if you’re looking for a party away from the noise of the city, this may be a better alternative.

8. The Haunted Pavilion

10. Spooky Seas The “Pirates Ahoy!” Edition

For those of you who are looking to spend this year’s Halloween with inhabitants of the sea, Resorts World Sentosa has got you covered. Watch pumpkins get carved into lanterns under the sea, solve mysteries, and get to know chilling facts about underwater sea creatures. 

Catch skeleton divers swim by, and see how aquarists hand-feed dangerous sea creatures such as sharks and rays. If you still haven’t been to the S.E.A Aquarium, there’s no better time to check this attraction out.
