It’s a sad start to July for movie lovers – news has just broken that Golden Village at Plaza Singapura is closing down this August, after 28 years at the location. The iconic late-night movie destination is due to shut as the mall sets out on a major revamp, but the news is not all dire; GV is bidding farewell with a blast, and here’s what you can expect:

First things first – GV Plaza Sing is set to close in several phases, starting with 6 cinema halls screening their last films on 2nd August 2026. The ultimate curtain call will come shortly after, on 16th August 2026, when the remaining halls will play the closing credits for the final time.

There’s no sugarcoating this bad news, but GV is laying it on with the offer of 10,000 free Regular popcorn or regular Coca-Cola from now till 16th August 2026.
Anyone who purchases movie tickets via the GV website or iGV mobile app (iOS | Android) will stand a chance to receive an e-Voucher for the complimentary popcorn or Coca-Cola. Do note that your purchase has to be for 2 tickets to a screening at Golden Village Plaza Singapura.
There are only 10,000 vouchers to be given out. In addition, the voucher can only be redeemed from 17th August to 31st October 2026 at all other GV locations.
TL;DR: You have to buy 2 tickets online for GV Plaza Sing, but you can only enjoy your popcorn or Coca-Cola after GV Plaza Sing has closed down.
Golden Village will also be running a social media contest on Instagram, where you’ll have to share your favourite memory of GV Plaza. The winner will walk away with a private screening party for a movie of your choice!
Here’s what you have to do:
This contest runs from now until 11.59pm on 16th August 2026, and entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, and connection to GV Plaza.

Almost 3 decades old, GV Plaza Sing opened at the Dhoby Ghaut mall in 1998 with 10 cinema halls, and has been a mainstay on Level 7 since many of us can remember.
FYI, Plaza Singapura is one of the pioneer malls on the Orchard Road belt; it’s been there since 1974, when it opened as Singapore’s first multi-storey shopping centre housing Yaohan departmental store. It was groundbreaking, being the first “all-in-one” shopping mall concept.
When GV Plaza Singapura opened in 1998, it was the brand’s first foray into the Orchard Road area, after GV Marina first launched 2 years before. But with GV Plaza’s 10 screens versus the 6 in Marina, it became a massive central hub for movie-going in town – especially with its legendary late-night screenings.
If GV Plaza Singapura was a key part of your growing up years, don’t miss its last 6 weeks, before the curtain closes on the much-loved halls, and walk the much-trodden passageways leading back into the mall one last time.
