When we say “pasar”, some of us think of the grocery brand that sells fresh veggies. Most of us will think “pasar malam”. No surprise there, as night markets are top of mind with many pasar malams now running concurrently all around Singapore.
If you’re an Eastie, take a jaunt out to Giant Hypermarket Tampines’s carpark – they’re holding a night market complete with carnival games and even a durian vendor from now till 4th December 2022.

While most pasar malams are held near MRTs or residential areas, the Giant Year-End Pasar Malam is now happening at the outdoor car park of the megamall. It’s no run-off-the-mill night market, with more than 20 stores under sheltered lots instead of giant tents, and fairy lights twinkling in the evenings. Halal food options are available.

For durian lovers, the highlight will have to be the pop-up store selling the aromatic king of fruits. Durian is hard to find off-season so you can take heart that there are some fresh mao shan wangs here to satiate those cravings.

Carnival booth games are also available here for the little ones to try their hand at winning some plushies. If you’d like to take your chances with the claw machine instead, they’ve got an assortment of pink UFO catchers to try your hand at.

Before or after grocery shopping, also order some piping hot nosh from their variety of stores. You’ll find classics like prawn vadai (10 for $4), otah (5 for $4), takoyaki, and muah chee.

Modern pasar malam snacks like sweet potato balls and Taiwanese fried chicken cutlets have also been spotted. You can even cool down with a scoop of ice cream or two from a food truck.
You can also find local artisanal crafts here for early Christmas gift shopping. Plus, with any purchase from the pasar malam, you’ll also get a $5 off Giant Voucher which you can use to offset your grocery costs.
While visiting the Tampines Retail Park’s IKEA, Courts, or Giant, don’t miss out on the pop-up Giant Hypermarket pasar malam. We’re sure you’ll find a hearty serving of food and some carnival games. If you’ve been looking high and low for durians, you now know where to find some too.
