What you need to know before visiting Freeway E-Kart

Freeway E-Kart is the largest indoor electric go-kart track centre in Selangor, spanning over 80,000sqft. You can choose from 2 racing experiences: the electric go-kart (from RM65/session) or the mini drift-kart (RM25/session). Just ensure that you meet the following requirements:

  • Go-Kart: Driver must be at least 145cm tall and 13 years old.
  • Mini-Drift: Driver must be at least 100cm tall and 10 years old.
  • Age: Those below 18 years old must be accompanied by a guardian.
  • Dress code: Come in closed-toe shoes and activewear. Avoid coming in loose-fitting clothes like dresses and skirts.

Mini-Drift sessions are 10 minutes long, while Go-Kart sessions are 8 minutes across any one of the 3 race options you pick. But not to worry, the go-karting track is huge, at 620-m long and 6m wide, giving you many chances to overtake your opponents over 25 different turns. The Mini-Drift kart is no slouch either, long enough to have a couple of thrilling races with the kids.

E-Karts generate more oomph, letting you accelerate faster.

The Go-Kart sessions utilise e-karts that are 100% electric powered. Not only do they move quicker, but quieter too, so your ears won’t feel like bleeding every time there’s screeching. It also means you won’t have to worry about inhaling any pesky gasoline fumes or dust, and can just focus on winning the race.

As for the Mini-Drift karts, they are regular diesel-powered karts but, have been designed to drift way more, so it’s more fun for kids to enjoy the action.

What kind of races are available at Freeway E-Kart?

Mini-Drift

Parents can ride along with their kid to have fun.

Recreate scenes from Tokyo Drift at the Mini-Drift arena. Pull the hand brakes tight as you swerve and drift around the corners to overtake other riders. Not to worry, there are small but sturdy speed bumps in place, in case you lose control. Each kart even blasts out upbeat electronic dance music, amplifying the street race vibe.

Racing

Racing here is as fun as it gets. The karts can reach speeds of up to 85km/h, which is a lot more than the average speed of a cheetah! The best part is, you don’t even need to have a driver’s licence to ride these bad boys, just confidence.

But if you are a newbie, don’t worry. There are actually several set speed “levels” you can choose from, so you won’t accidentally go full throttle and crash. The higher the set speed limit, the higher the cost. Here is the breakdown:

Level Speed limit Cost
Entry level Less than 40km/h RM65/session
Level 1 40km/h RM75/session
Level 2 60km/h RM85/session
Level 3 85km/h RM95/session

Night Race

On your marks, get set, go!

The Night Race (RM65/pax) is as close as you can get to F1 Singapore GP nights. But instead of racing under the floodlights of Marina Bay Sands, your path will be illuminated by LED lights all around the barriers. They are neon purplish in colour, inspired by the anime Initial D, though you may find them a tiny bit similar to illumi Singapore.

The lights aren’t just there for aesthetic purposes either, as they help guide you along the race, so you’re not left in the dark. For safety reasons, the speed limit is capped to 30km/h. Plus, there are bright red bumper lights on the back of each kart, so it’s as safe as a normal race. Just note that night races are only available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10pm.

Mini GP

You can choose to up the stakes further and organise your own Mini GP (from RM 160/pax). Don on the colourful racing suits (RM15) and get into the driver’s seat. Just note that you will need a minimum of 6 participants.

Once your friends’ turned competitors are ready, there will be an 8minute qualifying round. Use this time to iron out any kinks in your driving skills, and also envision the path you will take later on if you qualify. After qualifying, is the final race, which consists of 8 rounds to determine the winner. There is even a podium booth to celebrate as if you’ve won it IRL.

F1 fans know all too well the feeling of momentarily taking your eyes off the action, and now not knowing who is in the lead. Not to worry, as there is a screen displaying the lap timings for you to stay in the loop on who’s closer to the finish line, and who needs to catch up.
