Flexar, the relaunch of BlueSG
Remember BlueSG? Whether you used it or not, and whether you found the service useful or just knew about it mostly through memes and news mentions, the name is familiar to most Singaporeans. After all, it holds the iconic title of the first-ever large-scale electric car-sharing service in the country.
But in August 2025, BlueSG’s car-sharing operations became inactive as part of a “strategic pause”. The company planned to upgrade its platform, fleet of cars, network of pickup and dropoff points, and overall technology. And now, here we are with Flexar, the new and improved BlueSG set to launch this year.
What are the similarities & differences between BlueSG & Flexar?
As a quick refresher, BlueSG was different from other car-sharing services like Tribecar and GetGo. The latter were A-to-A services, meaning you’d have to return your vehicle to the same designated lot after your rental period. But BlueSG came in a clutch with a convenient A-to-B system, meaning you could collect your vehicle at one spot and return it at any other BlueSG station nationwide.

Flexar will implement the same system, and the network of pickup and dropoff points is planned to be even wider than what BlueSG had. There will also be a bigger fleet of vehicles to meet the demands of car-sharers.
On that topic, Flexar is set to launch with a different mix of vehicles, although the exact models have yet to be revealed. So the cute little toy car-esque BlueSG models you saw on the road with that familiar logo on the side? Those won’t be making a comeback, as all BlueSG vehicles were either sold or scrapped following the cessation of their operations.

The Flexar platform will feature a new technology stack, and an upgraded app to improve reliability based on the pain points previously reported for BlueSG’s app. UX wise, Flexar will be taking into consideration the complaints and bugs which plagued BlueSG. This goes for everything from the process of signing up and booking a vehicle, to the actual car usage.
