This Disney+ Pop-Up Is Themed After New K-Drama Light Shop, Has Free Photo Booth & Keepsakes

Disney+ Light Shop pop-up in Bugis

K drama lovers who’re looking for their next binge, I’ve got news for you. A brand new series is coming to Disney+, and your love for this one does not have to be confined behind a screen. That’s because a pop-up themed after the Korean mystery drama Light Shop will be stationed opposite Bugis Junction, making it a convenient stop on your dates near the city centre.

Best part is, the entire experience is FOC, so even if you’re not an oppa-obsessed fan, there’s no harm in popping by. We paid the glimmering pop-up a visit recently, so here’s an illuminating sneak peek to get you all excited:

What is The Light Shop pop-up?

The Light Shop pop-up is themed after Disney+’s latest K drama release, Light Shop, which premiered on the streaming platform on 4th December 2024. The first 4 episodes are already available to watch, while the remaining 4 will be aired over the next 2 weeks.

The series follows Ju Ji Hoon who takes on the role of the sunglasses-donning Jung Won Young, the owner of the titular shop. However, the man does not only deal in bulbs and lamps, and 6 strangers, each grappling with past traumas, are curiously drawn to the shop as they discover that it holds the key to their past, present, and future.

Back to The Light Shop pop-up experience, it’s going to be up and running from now till 8th December 2024 from 3pm-9pm on weekdays and 11am-10pm on weekends, at 251 Victoria Street. Entry is free, making the pop-up the perfect date spot if you’re on a budget.

Craft your own keychains & snap pics at a photo booth

The Light Shop pop-up entrance

It’s pretty hard to miss The Light Shop pop-up’s entrance, especially when you’re visiting under the cloak of night. After all, it takes after the appearance of the lighting shop featured in the series, from the huge storefront sign written in Korean, down to the staggering amount of ceiling lights and table lamps beaming away within the confines of this glassy shop.

The Light Shop pop-up interior

Take your time to admire the warmly lit interior; just like its on-screen counterpart, the pop-up houses lights in all sorts of peculiar shapes and sizes. Sadly, they’re not for sale – we’ve asked. But, you’re free to use the shop as an IG-worthy set for a few pictures.

Scavenger hunt
You’ll want to make sure you’re inspecting the right lamps, as some of them do look quite similar to one another.

But, gazing at pretty backdrops ain’t the only thing to do here. Embark on the Find Your Light challenge, a scavenger hunt which will have you peering into lampshades and flipping the store’s goods over to uncover 3 hidden phrases to jot down on your challenge card. The phrases should form a coherent sentence, so if yours is a little jumbled up, do look twice.

Working on DIY keychain

There’ll also be a DIY keychain station at the pop-up. Those who’ve successfully completed the Find Your Light challenge will be able to start putting together their customised trinkets, right after posting a picture of the pop-up on their socials with the hashtag #LightShop and tagging @DisneyPlusSG.

The tiny light bulb is even functional, and glows in various colours at the push of a button.

Tools will be provided to work on your keychains, and visitors can pick up to 2 silver charms to go on their mementos, alongside a mini light bulb and a replica of the light shop’s sign. Other than adorning your keyrings with your initials, you can also slap on charms that hark back to the show, such as an iconic pair of sunnies, a stiletto heel, and a basketball.

Chalkboard

Moving on, you can learn more about the characters on the show on a long chalkboard which sheds some light on their personalities. Some notable cast members include Park Bo Young who plays a nurse dealing with anguish from a near death experience, as well as Parasite star Lee Jung Eun who has stepped into the shoes of a distraught mother for the series.

Wall of WishesWe’re not quite sure how some notes wound up on the ceiling.

Although the show opens with a rather dour tone, once you get into the thick of it you’ll find that under the sombre storyline lies a plethora of heartwarming moments as well. To portray this, the pop-up’s Wall of Wishes has been set up for visitors to leave positive messages and perhaps resolutions for the New Year, since 2025 is but a few weeks away.

Director and main lead autographed messages

Fun fact: the director and 2 leads of the show Kim Hee Won, Ju Ji Hoon, and Park Bo Young actually made their way to the pop-up recently to write notes of their own. You can view their autographed messages right above the keyring workstations, framed up for all to see.

Photo booth

Don’t forget to snap a pic for keepsakes at the Last Light photo booth too. It’s free for all to use, and they’ve even prepared prop sunglasses to put on to really step into the shoes of Won Young from the show. After you’ve struck your poses, choose from 8 different frame designs, and you’ll get to walk home with 2 printed strips of photos.

Stamp rally rewards

Finally, if you’ve diligently kept an eye out for Disney+’s events like this one and have attended their previous Agatha All Along pop-up, you’ll be rewarded with an extra stamp on your stamp rally card. Not only are you 1 step closer to redeeming a mystery prize when you complete the stamp rally, but you’ll also get a couple of Agatha All Along prints and 4 Light Shop photocards.

But, if you’re looking for a wallet-friendly one to swing by to commemorate the year-end, then look no further than The Light Shop pop-up experience.
