We Singaporeans are a fit bunch. Whether it’s exploring nature reserves and parks over the weekends or hitting up 24-hour gyms after work, we’re always game for a good workout. This time, you can stay fit and give back to the community while you’re at it, thanks to the first-ever Community Chest Vertical Marathon from now till 31st October 2021.
In celebration of Community Chest’s 38th anniversary, this event aims to rally the public to achieve a collective goal of 38,000M in elevation. You can join in a virtual expedition to climb five peaks across the region for a meaningful cause.
38,000M is equivalent to four Mount Everest peaks, and all participants can help reach this collective goal by virtually climbing five peaks across Asia:
The proceeds raised from taking part in the Community Chest Vertical Marathon 2021 will help benefit the following communities: children with special needs and youth-at-risk, adults with disabilities, persons with mental health conditions, seniors and families in need of support.
Grab a friend and register in teams of two for $68/pair, or sign up as an individual for $38/person. Registration is open till 3rd October 2021, and you can clock in your elevation anytime between now and 31st October 2021.
As you do so, you’ll be able to unlock e-badges when you complete the respective elevations tied to each peak. If you’re super gung-ho, aim to conquer all five virtual peaks and you’ll get an e-certificate to commemorate your effort.
Here are two challenges you can consider going for:
The UNIQLO T-shirt was designed by Muhammad Naufal Azhari Bin Jasmi from Rainbow Centre Margaret Drive School, a social service agency.
For a top-up of $22, you will receive a limited-edition T-shirt from UNIQLO. The proceeds will go towards supporting Community Chest’s social service users from over 100 social service agencies and more than 200 critical programmes.
To get started, simply register online for the Community Chest Vertical Marathon 2021. Participants can complete this virtual Vertical Marathon in their own time at any location of their choice. As long as there’s some sort of elevation, such as steps and upward slopes, you’re good to go; you can even walk up the stairs of your HDB block.
Here are some more ideas on where you can go to clock in your elevation while enjoying a weekend amid nature:
Remember to download the Strava app or any elevation tracking app with a GPS function to log your progress. If you’re using other apps, don’t forget to take a screenshot with your elevation and timing, and submit it using your registered account.
If you want to contribute towards the cause in addition to your virtual climb, Community Chest is also organising their first ever series of Charity Masterclasses. Happening throughout the month of September 2021, this series of four virtual classes is part of a fundraising initiative that supports the Community Chest Vertical Marathon 2021.
These are priced at $38 per masterclass, and you can sign up to pick up tips for stress management and home styling for wellness. Alternatively, participate in virtual barre and yoga classes to continue with the fitspo theme of the vertical marathon.
Attending a masterclass will also give you the chance to win prizes such as a free life-coaching session or home styling consultation. You may also score virtual barre classes or even vouchers for yoga classes.
Sign up for any virtual Charity Masterclass and all proceeds will go towards supporting Community Chest’s social service users from over 100 social service agencies and more than 200 critical programmes.
Remember to practice safe distancing measures while you’re clocking your elevation
With P2HA restrictions easing and social gathering sizes increasing back to five, rally your friends and family to support a good cause while clocking in some exercise from now till 31st October 2021.
Sign up for the Community Chest Vertical Marathon 2021 and Charity Masterclass to show your support. Start accumulating elevation, so you can contribute to the community goal of 38,000M with fellow vertical marathoners. Alternatively, you can also donate to Community Chest’s fundraiser for good measure.
