Sweet tooths, rejoice. Our neighbours over at JB are hosting a whole shindig dedicated to tasty treats that’s definitely worth catching a cross-border CW bus to check out yourselves. Organised by Park Maya Fest, no prizes for guessing what you’ll find at the ongoing Chocolate Festival.
Filled with rows of booths selling various chocolatey goodies and sinful finger food, here’s what you can expect when you stop by Chocolate Festival on your upcoming JB trip this weekend.
Stuff yourself with chocolate-infused desserts & finger food

Chocolate Festival is happening from now till 1st September 2024, from 4pm to 12am daily, so consider this your cue to start hitting up the group chat for yet another day trip to JB. It’s held at Tebing Bandar Dato’ Onn, a huge outdoor event space located just a 20-minute drive from the JB checkpoint.

Be sure you arrive on an empty stomach, as there’s a huge range of goodies to taste-test. Make a beeline for the food stalls; you’ll be spoilt for choice here when it comes to getting your sugar fix. From chocolate glazed donuts to s’mores in a bowl, Chocolate Festival truly looks like a dessert lover’s haven.

Other sweets to look forward to include the tried-and-tested combo of chocolate-coated strawberries, cupcakes topped with nuggets of Cadbury chocolate, and brownies. Don’t forget to snag a couple of sticks of Tanghulu for the road, or bring home a fresh batch of cookies for tomorrow’s breakfast.

Those looking for your standard food festival nosh can also grab bites right at Chocolate Festival. Just check out Park Maya Fest’s Facebook coverage of the ongoing event; you’ll be greeted with sumptuous shots of fried chicken, fries, takoyaki, hot dog buns, and burgers. As for drinks, wash everything down with icy cold cups of coffee and a selection of colourful fruit-based teas.
Stay on for live music performances & other activities

Of course, no party’s complete without a musical act or two, and Chocolate Festival does not disappoint, so tune in for the live performances happening throughout the event. Visitors can expect to be serenaded by the likes of local bands such as the talented duo of SimpleCoustic’s and lounge-pop group Irfan & The Barista on Saturday.
Visitors heading down on Sunday can catch Malaysian hip-hop and R&B soul vocal group Ruffedge in a meet-and-greet session at 9pm. There’ll also be an EDM countdown on the festival’s last day, so you can skip going to the club and clock in your weekly rave sesh at Chocolate Festival instead.

You can also do some shopping at the on-site thrift stores here; they’ve announced a lineup of various stalls selling clothes, accessories like bags and watches, and even bottled fragrances. Interestingly, Chocolate Festival will be conducting cooking talks to educate visitors how to prepare Asian and Western food, as well as a crochet session for the artsy folks.
