CC’s and Swimming Complexes

Most locals take for granted how nice it is to have subsidized community centres (CCs) and swimming complexes provided by the government at extremely cheap rates, and in this article I just wanna highlight these two places for the younger generation. Many young Singaporeans do not even know about them and have never been to one! Did you know there are a total of 105 community centres and over 20 Swimming Complexes in Singapore? Basically CCs aim to provide enjoyable recreational facilities to the masses at really cheap rates.

Community Centres

CCs in Singapore typically contain

  • A basketball court (Free)
  • Badminton Courts
  • Table-Tennis tables
  • Gyms
  • Multipurpose Halls ranging from Music Rooms to Yoga Classes to Education Learning Centres

It all depends which CC you go to, but most have at least a basketball and badminton court.

Here is a list of some popular ones.

Swimming complexes

Swimming complexes are remarkably cheap in Singapore.

Entrance fees start at just $1 for the whole day! You can take up swimming lessons or sign up for some water sports. The complexes usually contain a lap pool so serious swimmers can do some proper exercise, a kids pool and a wadding pool for general swimming.

Of course since they are “Public pools” sometimes it can get crowded and some complexes aren’t the cleanest but don’t let that deter you! I am a regular swimmer at public complexes and contray to what my mother thinks who to her horror can’t believe i go to public swimming pools, I did not catch any diseases lol. And because I normally go before 5pm on weekdays, the pools are usually very empty and theres tons of personal space.

I love swimming at complexes in Singapore and will continue to do so for a long time to come!

The Very Best

Jurong East Swimming Complex stands out singularly as a wonder of its own among the other swimming complexes. It is a decent sized water theme park complete with wave simulation pool and a meandering laze pool. The remarkable thing? Entry is… $1.50!!

TSL member desirabbit shares her experience.

“Jurong East Swimming Complex is the best swimming complex to go for a day of fun and enjoyment at an affordable price! Only slightly more expensive than entry to a regular swimming pool, this swimming complex is even better because it comes pools catering to both the serious and the adventurous!

One of my favourite installations is the wave pool, where every now and then, the water is set into motion and waves sweep through the entire pool, giving you the feeling of an oceanic experience. Be careful not to lose any loose particles such as spectacles here! The waves may not look like much, but sometimes they can give quite a push! I also love the lazy pool, as a contrast to the excitement of the wave pool. My friends and I enjoy racing against the current because the current is so strong sometimes we get swept off our feet! But this is a good place to enjoy and rest after a tiring time of enjoying all the other activities.

Lastly, the water slides are one of the main highlights of this pool. Available at various heights, the water slides give you the experience of a true water theme park at the price of a regular swimming pool! The slides are mild although they may look scary so do give it a try!”
