This “Art Jamming” Studio Lets You DIY Your Own Digital Film Camera & Unleash Your Inner Van Gogh

Build your digital film camera at Avant-Garde Art Space

Even though Instagram and TikTok are reigning supreme, film photography has been having its moment lately. And they’re often associated with artsy types. Now, you can DIY your own digital film cameras from scratch at Avant-Garde Art Space at Katong Shopping Centre.

Not only will have a piece of photography equipment you can truly call your own, you can also score cool indie flick points. It’s time to have your main character moment like Juno or Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Customise your own Paper Shoot Camera

The digital film cameras in question are by a company called Paper Shoot. They’re constructed out of eco-friendly stone paper, so it’s sustainable too. We can’t think of a better canvas for your Van Gogh aspirations.

And no, the photos won’t look like you took them from a potato. The camera produces 16 mega pixel photos and even 10-second 1080 pixel videos for your IG stories or TikToks. But that’s not all, there’s even a time lapse function for your sunset shots.

You don’t have to edit your photos on VSCO after, as the cameras come with 4 different built-in filters you can choose from: B&W, Sepia, Blue, and Colour

2-hour guided “art-jamming” workshop

If you’re sold on the cameras already, our job is half done. Here comes the fun part: turning it into a piece of functional art.

Go wild, or minimalist if you prefer – the camera is your canvas.

Avant-Garde Art Space’s 2-hour guided workshop is where you can paint, draw or scribble on the digital film cameras to make it your own. The workshop costs $199, and includes the camera and art supplies like colour pencils, pencils and paint. All you have to bring is your creative juices.

Considering how the Paper Shoot Cameras already cost $168.50 each, this is a pretty worthwhile investment. The AAA batteries and SD card aren’t included, but you can purchase them from Avant-Garde or stores like Challenger.

Family activity with your kids & furbabies

It’s a great family-bonding activity, too, especially if your young ones love scribbling on anything and everything. They’ll even get to take their own camera home should they want to start their photography hobby young

The space is also pet-friendly – so you can cuddle up with your furbabies as you create your own digital film camera.

Art jam at Avant-Garde Art Space

Photography and art often go hand in hand. At Avant-Garde Art Space, the custom camera workshop lets you do both at the same time – so it’s finally time to step away from the daily grind and unleash your creativity. Who knows, you might just be the next art maestro.
