5 Ways to Get Promoted At Your Job in Singapore

Time for an upgrade at your job!

The world is crazy competitive and nowhere is this more obvious than in the cut-throat world of the job market. Everybody wants to be promoted, not just you. But there are ways to make yourself stand out so that you will get the job.

Here are 5 fool proof ways to get promoted at your job!

1. Be more productive

This one is pretty self-explanatory. When you’re at work, you gotta work. There’s no two ways about it. So close that Facebook tab and put away the phone. Focus on the work at hand. When you go home for the day you’ll feel much better cos you were productive!

Bosses love ideas for productivity. If you can showcase a talent in helping reduce bottlenecks you’ll make headway into rising quickly. There are even grants out there like NTUC’s Inclusive Growth Programme that helps to offset productivity investments.

2. Develop new skills

Simply put, you need to stand out from the crowd. The more you know, the more of an asset you’ll be to the company. And who are the ones who get promoted? The ones who can contribute.

Skills-upgrading courses are easily available at various training providers and you can get funding from NTUC or the government to save money!

3. Be well-liked at your workplace

I don’t mean you should channel you inner mean girl and I definitely don’t mean that you should be someone you’re not but you’ve got to be likeable. You need to be able to get along with your peers and your superiors because they will be looking for someone they can work with.

But if someone tries to dampen your rising star by bullying you at work, check out these anti-workplace bullying options to protect your reputation and rice bowl.

4. Be Positive

Positivity is key in any company and when your enthusiasm is felt by your superiors, then a promotion will definitely be in your future.

Our mothers saw the best in us, we should too.

5. Be professional

No one is going to take you seriously if you don’t present yourself professionally. “Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.” As much as we want not to believe it, appearances do matter so make sure you look sharp at all times. Oh and that new fart joke you heard, save it for your buddies, not your colleagues.

Even in the face of demanding customers, it’s possible to remain cool and professional, just like this Subway aunty who tolerated odd requests from one customer.

The positive cycle

Become a better employee by employing these tactics and you’ll impress your superiors and in turn also leave your customers coming back for more! Better employees will result in more satisfied customers who in turn spend more. Resulting in a more profitable company which shares this profit with their employees.

There is a nice positive cycle that goes on and I am sure all of you love promotions and hopefully with these tips you’ll be getting a pay rise soon!
