Expecting a baby is both an exciting and nerve-wrecking experience, and would-be parents often start preparations weeks before the due date. However, things just don’t always go according to plans. Sometimes, a baby just arrives sooner than expected, and stories of women giving birth on the way to the hospital – including on boats and trains – aren’t unheard of.
Such was what happened to a Vietnamese woman last week. Fortunately, she met two kind-hearted traffic police officers who cleared the way for the car she was on to quickly rush her to hospital.

Last weekend, a video, apparently taken by a car’s dashcam, went viral on several Vietnamese Facebook pages. It shows the car following two traffic police officers, while in the background, the cries of a newborn baby can clearly be heard. We can tell from the timestamp on the video that it was the morning of 26th March.
According to the video’s caption, the driver was taking a pregnant woman to a hospital in Saigon for her delivery. However, as the car was hindered by heavy traffic jams, the woman couldn’t wait and gave birth right in the car.

During this moment of distress, the car driver spotted two traffic policemen on the side of the road. He quickly pulled over and explained the situation to them, and immediately, the officers hopped on their motorbikes and drove ahead to clear the way for the car.
Thanks to their effort, the woman reached the hospital in time to receive medical attention, and both mother and child reportedly made it through safe and sound.
The police officers’ heroic action earned them massive praise from netizens, and yesterday, they were given an award by authorities.
It is easy for us to get frustrated and angry at traffic policemen when they give us a fine for traffic rule violations, but when we think about it, they are just doing their job, and the fines are no one’s fault but our own.
At the end of the day, the police are there to uphold the law, and we can always count on them in our times of need, as these two officers have proven.
